    Rest from overclockers and scan

Scan came up cheapest most of the time.

Going to fire up bf3 tomorrow.;-)

Ill be sure to do that 🙂

I just figured out the final cost… its somewhere between 794 and 795.. 😳
Should i be embarrassed that i spend that much on this?
if it plays bf3 on high with no issue (i mean none at all) ill be happy..
if it plays on anything above high (without the aforementioned meltdown) ill be ecstatic.

yeah! im quite pleased with it.

the only thing that dissapoints slightly is the 3tb drive.
its not the drives fault.. just that windows dosent seem to recognise more than 2tb of it..

maybe i formatted wrong or havent set something int he bios.. but anyway.. ive got more space than i need with 2tb and ill figure out the rest when i need it.

might get to see how it handles bf3 tomorrow 🙂

    Finally got it all together….

    Final spec came in as:
    I5 2500k
16GB Ram (with fucking massive heatsinks! look closely youll see i had to remove the (ghey) sinks from one, the one under the cooler)
    GTX460
    120GB SSD
    3TB Disk
    SG05BB case

Its got a 450 W psu so dont know if i could have gone slightly higher on the graphics card. Heat may be the enemy here. We shall see…

Some pics if anyone is interested..

Yeah but if it goes wrong im up the.. well im screwed.
The one thing I thought of trying is……
Use a USB pen . Make it boot able.
On boot run a power shell script to set the default boot choice
    And reboot.
Then when the os comes up get that to run another script to reset the
    Default.

Sounds convoluted.. but as you say. There isn’t an out of the box solution.

    hmm
    sounds sheite..

are the non punkbuster servers ranked?
and are they full to the brim with ghey haxoring 13 year olds (not you max.. you sound like youre older than 13!! haha  ) who will rape you till they get bored or get called to have their dinner?

p.s. anyone know the cheapest place for a 3TB drive? (looks like Scan is atm)

there’s a notice up on the bf3/origin/homepage saying “The “Game disconnected: you were kicked by Punkbuster errors” are being looked into right now.”

so it must be affecting loads of people..

    ooooooooo shiny!

but i need it to fit under the TV…
this is the case its all going into http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-sg05bb-450-sugo-mini-itx-cube-case-all-black-with-450w-sfx-psu-80-plus-bronze-black

I spose there is a premium for the ITX form factor..
e.g. the motherboard is £130 whereas i can probably get an ATX Z68 mobo for £70..

i also for some reason went nuts on the RAM.. could (SHOULD) have got 8gb for £40.. but went for 16 for £100.. (its 2x8gb)

to quote doc “buy cheap, buy twice. och aye the noo!”. But I normally disregard Doc. Personally I would /did replace the mobo for future proofing (!) and get am i5 or i3 processor for cheapness, you can always add a better processor later but a decent i5 will do the trick nicely. Of course this means new RAM probably and maybe new gfx card (just checked and yours is the minimum listed!). Given no case and psu/drives etc, could be yours for about £400-500.

If you do that check the other posts about PCs for BF3, but I would recommend a z68 chipset motherboard (supposed to support the next gen “ivybridge” processors) and SSd caching (of minimal interest to most people though!) as well as Virtu stuff which is excellent for video decoding/2d applications but is a bit complicated and gaming doesn’t really get an advantage from.

    The pieces are coming together…
I got a new gfx card (Evga GTX 460 SC and put it in my current PC.. and bf plays at 30fps on high settings)

but.. I’ve also got an I5 2500k and 16GB or ram sitting in my drawer waiting for their new home to arrive (hopefully monday)

The motherboard is a Zotac Z68 ITX board, so will be able to go to an ivy bridge if i feel the need.. (should run cooler)

My only worry is heat inside the small case.. most of which will come from the GFX..

I was playing last night and the fan was .. well.. LOUD.. that was keeping it at 60c.

Anyway.. just going to save up for the sata 3 SSD and ill be ready to build it.

total spend.. well.. ~£600.. and i play all of 2 hours a week! and my current rig can just about handle it.. 😆 😆

    WOOT for me..

That is cheap ram.. But that mobo won’t fit in my case

    My mobo is 17cm x 17cm..
    Similar to this.. http://www.mini-itx.com/store/images/4302-Z68-ITX-A-E-01.jpg

The latest board is about 120 squids.
