I’ve just noticed that this can be stored in your personal profile. So just add it there, and then anyone who is interested can grab it.

OK Toothy, here it is. There is a thread going, but I;ve just poste a couple of them:

    Ok folks,

those reading this message are the most endurant of our members here at MPCoUk. You know what we have come through since BF1942 was released, and some of us a helluvalot more than that. This includes those who still post, and those who still lurk too .

I have just sent out the CANCELLATION request for our hosting contract. At 30รƒฦ’ร†โ€™รƒโ€šร‚ยขรƒฦ’ร‚ยขรƒยขรขโ‚ฌลกร‚ยฌรƒโ€ฆร‚ยกรƒฦ’รขโ‚ฌลกรƒโ€šร‚ยฌ per month, the ratio of usage to cost is way out of balance so, as previously stated, we are moving to a more cost effective solution.

There have been a few options to choose from, and although a very attractive one, the most recent has prooved beyond my technical expertise. Ill be pulling a final BACKUP of the Forum DB today, but will attempt to pull another as close to the switch as possible. If all else fails, todays state will be the initial state on relaunch.

The Site will close down on the 12th of August, exactly our THIRD Birthday. 1&1 have been an exceptionally reliable ISP with very very very little, and also short downtime (2-3 times, downtime <3 hrs) so in retrospect Im glad we chose them. They were a bit pricey, but I realize now, the package was a little optimisitic in terms of max. data volume. We rarely exceeded half the volume we could have transferred on a monthly basis.

The Domain will move before the Site will, so there will almost certainly be a period with NO FORUM. For this time, and to check for any possible delays or other changes please consult this site for status info. I will post there and keep you up to speed on progress. If all goes well, you shouldnt be without a forum to lurk on for all too long:

    http://multiplayers.famvanderharst.com/

If you want to insult me, or ask about progress or stuff like that, my MSN is almost always on: The name is mad_hseldon and the domain name is hotmail dot com.

Three years is quite a long time. Its 12 billing cycles and countless hiccups within the community. Its not always been easy, it has always been fun and we aint thru just yet. Still, this is as good a time as any to thank those who deserve it for what they have done for us all.

To each and every poster on this site for participating, adding opinions, views, information and sometimes very strange jokes. In short for using the place and makin it fun to be here.
    Thank you !!!

For putting his neck on the line, taking full legal responsibility for the site by being the one to sign the hosting contract. For trusting me with operating it without getting him into trouble. For his appreciation of German “green beer” and not least for being a good friend and a b*tch of a sniper to find on El Alamein..
    Thanks Bumfluff !!!

For donating money to the upkeep of this site EVERY SINGLE billing cycle, for donating a Battlfield 1942/DC Server, a Teamspeak Server, FH, Operation Flashpoint server and YOU-FRIGGIN-NAME-IT-SERVERS. We are all in your debt!
    Thanks Toobs. !!!

For offering a new home to us, in times of need, setting up a webspace and enduring my stupid questions while I discovered I was too thick to use it:
    Thanks White Rabbit !!!

For also offering a new home to us in times of need, and being lucky enough to have a provider I can just about manage to work with and for provider the blitz-forums to keep you folks informed while I work away at the move.
    Thanks TheMax !!!

For helping me and thus all of us back when we set up shop here, coming from battlefield1942.co.uk. For being my patient assistant, Chief Moderator and many other things.
    Thanks Ronaz !!!

For being here and contributing to this madhouse in spite of having their own Forum-homes to frequent, and keeping to our rules in spite of having other rules where they otherwise post, and for the hours of gaming we have had.
    Thanks 1st Hussars and HGG!!!
    Thanks XDC !!!
    Thanks Desert Rats !!!
    Thanks *-UK-* !!!

… now a new chapter will start, maybe with new games, new faces, lots of old faces and who knows what else. Im lookin forward to it, so keep the SPAM comin !

bye fer now, you’ll hear from me on the temp site.

I noticed this bit from the article:
During production it was decided that some scenes should be re-shot and others added to give the movie a harder edge.

The changes included adding more snake attacks, a mile-high sex scene and some profane language.

So I might go and see it now ๐Ÿ˜›

What pissed me off about Titanic was that it was the old stereotype of plucky-oirish-peasants vs stiff-upper-lipped-cold-hearted-English-bastards theme.

Oh look – how those peasants stuffed 200 to a room must be having so much fun with their little jigs and below-decks river dancing. Oh yes, much better than the posh ball on the upper. It was probably the bloody clompety-clomp of the effin river dancing peasants that weakened the hull of the ship in the first place!

    Bloody Hollywood. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

No – it would be commercial suicide to do that. It’s possible that a handful of particular features of DX10 may require new hardware, but any app writer will ensure there is a graceful downgrade if that thing is not supported. It’s hard enough making any profits on a PC game without limiting your potential installed base even further.

But one thing to remember is that todays high end graphics chips are also extremely general purpose as they can be programmed to do many different things – some rocket scientists exploit the power of these chips to do really hairy arsed mathematical stuff. I even saw somewhere that someone has exploited the inherent parallel processing of Nvidea chips to provide a really quick engine for certain SQL database tasks.

Why this is relevent is that if today’s processors are so easy to exploit to other applications, it is very likely that there will be programmable solutions to some particular DX10 features. Unfortunately I don’t know off hand what is coming in DX10, and I can’t be arsed to look it up ๐Ÿ™‚
