Yeah. This was more of an Adam Sandler ‘chick flick’, that a full on comedy like Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy or The Water Boy, but was still pretty good.

Nice idea with the remote that controls your life (although tbh whoever programmed it was a twat).

If your GF won’t watch Adam Sandler films, watch this one and 50 First Dates and then she’ll be hooked, but not one of his best.

Saw this at the weekend. I expected it to be some moving, emmotional examination of the family dynamic, and maybe the first 10 minutes were, but after that it was very good.

It’s not laugh a minute, but when they hit you with the comedy it’s top notch.

    9/10

Yup Insane talks the truth. Those bloody add in packages are annoying. If I recieve one and activate it, all my friends recieve an invite. If they then install the package and it does the same I’ll get messaged back, and so on.

Still it’s no big deal to just delete them.

With regards to the P35/1333Mhz FSB to really gain the performance benefit of the Duel/Quad Core Core 2 Duo’s you probably need to use DDR 3 Memory which at the moment is quite pricey. You can get M/Boards that support both DD2/DD3 but you’ll be limited to the speed your memory runs unless you clock the nuts out of it.

I reckon Lammie’s on the money here. Get the best Mobo you can with loads of room for upgrade. Get a cheap CPU since if it’s a decent mobo you’ll be able to easily upgrade it in a year or so when you’ve got more money.

Get a solid PSU, since they’re not really upgradeable, and then you can pick and choose other components as and when you need to upgrade them. I’m of the opinion that when you buy components for a PC, you should in fact be thinking about the NEXT PC you’re going to build. i.e. How upgradeable is the kit your buying?

    Damn straight she is! 😉

We get to Waterloo to catch the sodding Eurostar to Paris to go to this sodding funeral with her bloody family, and Nathalie has forgotten her passport!!!!!! 🙁

The next train is at 10:40 and it’s 08:05 and the guy tells her she can’t travel to France with no passport (duh?) so the wife goes into melt-down. Your truely sprints through the station jumps on the tube and runs up to the mainline station at Euston, jumping on a train as the doors are closing. Heads back to Berkhamsted (35 minute journey), sprints home, tears the house appart to find her passport, charges back to the station and gets on the next train back to London. Tube it from Euston to Waterloo get back for 09.55. Go through customs and are on the train with 15 minutes to spare! We make it to France and go to the funeral. Thank god I’m in shape or I’d be in the morgue myself right now!

CBT sounds interesting. Maybe I should get her to give her GP a shout and see what he/she can do. The other thing is that I could get hold of some cocaine just before she ever has to interract with her family and she can have a massive snort. Hey presto! An overly confident woman!

Main problem though is that her family have caused her depression and breakdown and seem to have some kind of reverse Midas touch with her. They know how to make her feel worthless at the drop of a hat, although credit to the girl she held her own yesterday and I made sure that she was never more than an arms length away from me. She had a rather tearful day, but none of them tried anything. The bastards.

Anyway, I really appreciate all this feedback folks. Help give me a better perspective on the situation and what I can do about it.

Bloody hell , listen to me. Sound like a right bloody anorak today! Never mind all that bollocks, here’s a pitcure of a bird with some beer – that’s more like it.

Wayhey…! Wait a minute… I recognise that beer, it’s Heineken! Christ! That’s my worst nightmare!!!!

I hope you’ve read ‘Slaughterhouse 5’ SOIA, although I’m not sure if it’s really sci fi or just a bit mental. It also stars Vonnegut regular Kilgore Trout as a newspaper salesman. Now that’s a fine book.

Feersum Endjinn wasn’t his best book, especially when you know what he’s capable of. Phlebas and Weapons are his best (IMHO), although Against a Dark Background was very good too, in a kind of ripping yarn sense, especially with the Solphists. I liked the bit where one of them is talking to the heroine and then decides that she’s no longer there and turns away, only to see that she is still there and is a bit dissappointed.

I started reading ‘Look to Windward’ but lost my way and gave up. I’ll take it on holiday with me so I can give it another go when I’ve got more time.

Anyway, I tried finding a picture of a woman with beer, but I could only find a picture of a bird with a bit of a beer gut. When will women learn to take care of themselves?

sPUNKer has recommended self hypnosis to the wife and I that looks pretty interesting. We’re going to give the self hypnosis a try over the weekend and see how we get on at boosting our self-confidence, although I think Nathalie needs it more than I. To be honest I don’t really need more self confindence as that might be dangerous.

Basically you listen to a music/speech track, relax and follow the instructions. Sounds like a winner to me since it’s something I can do lying down.

    Don’t worry about Max Panic.fo, he’s a genuine Haxx0r it’s been proven using science.

Shame about s2K server there Fluffy, I used to play there quite a bit when our server was empty, but I shall not frequent them in the future if they just ban people for being good, and there’s no chance of them doing that to me 😉

So either we all descend upon them en masse and lay some smackdown on their arses, or just add them to the list of fags and leave ’em alone.

Although since my 2142 don’t work, it’s a bit of a moot point for me…

I downloaded and played a few rounds of that QW: ET and I was quite impressed. Worked like a dream on my system, even at 1600×1050. It was basically a bit of a free for all on ther server, but I can see how with proper team play it’d be pretty good.

That being said, I’m not a fan of how they manage the ‘choke points’ in the game as it makes it a bit too arcade like. Also, when playing as the Strogg, your comanders voice is a bit disconcerting and I kept expecting him to clear his throat with a stern cough.

Also snipers seem to be armed with some kind of super powerful cannon that doesn’t seem to require much skill, and the fact that you can only place defence guns in certain locations means that you’ll soon learn where to look for them.

Pretty good for a demo. Shame about the setting.

Cheers Tess. I’ll have to cut back on the “your family are all twats” line that I’ve been taking of late, including the variation “your family are all complete twats”, which I often use to express how utterly twattish they are. But I can see how Nats might be getting a bad vibe off that from me.

She’s still trying in some way to make them all like her, but she’s wasting her time and they’re just using it against her. Her dad’s normally very decent, but he’s started siding with the rest of the family now, trying to get Nathalie to appologise for something she hasn’t done in order to return things to the family norm of using her as the scapegoat. But he didn’t reckon on Nathalie’s dashingly handsome husband to stick his oar in and say “NO!” That really what all this is about. Up until now they could just blame Nathalie for anything they wanted to make themselves feel better, and now she’s not putting up with it they’re throwing the toys out of the pram and banning us from family events.

Sure, I don’t care about that, but I guess Nathalie does. But I am going to the sodding funeral tomorrow, but only because I don’t want any of them trying to upset her. How sad is that? Going to a funeral to protect my wife from her own family?

And Jeremy Kyle’s a complete twat: Fact.

Inversions was pretty good. Supposedly it wasn’t a culture novel but most people I spoke to disagree. It seems like a fantasy novel to a certain extent but there’s more to it than that. It’s not his best book, but it’s still worth a read.

I’d give it about the same Doc. I read it about 4 years ago and didn’t think that much of it compared to his other books. I personally found the inter-ship comminucations a bit of a slog, particularly when only reading a few pages a day.

Plus, his usual hard hitting twist wasn’t that great this time.

I’d maybe give it a 5.5/10. Ranks alongside Feersum Enjin.

His other scif books are all superb though

Yeah, my family in law look at Nathalie’s depression as ‘being a silly girl’, which is why they shouldn’t be allowed near her. I went through depression about 10 years back, and normally your self-confidence is at zero, so having some ‘tards telling you that you’re being selfish or upsetting other people means that you actually believe them. She used to keep trying to please them, but they just throw it back in her face.

Also I just checked Eurostar and it’ll cost us about £688 to get there and back tomorrow! It cost me less to fly to Canada! We were just planning on turning up at the church and then leaving.

    Jesus-titty-fuckin’-christ. Even more debt. 😡

At the end of the day it will do more harm than good to totally alienate herself from her family… she just needs the tools to be able to see them for what they are (manipulative, deeply disturbed individuals) and not let them use her as an emotional punchbacg.

Cheers Doc, and you’re right. But in the short-term I want her to sever all ties with them until she’s able to handle them. The past three months we’ve kept them at arms length, and Nathalie was almost back to her old self. Then they decided that they hadn’t put her down or made her feel guilty recently and in the space of an hour we were virtually back to square one.
