Dont bother with the downloader – in its latest incarnation it seems to have completely forgotten what ea games i’ve bought… 🙄
For patches go to
http://clanservers.multiplay.co.uk/
Then go to ‘File Server’ under Other Services, then navigate to:
Games > First Person > Battlefield 2142 > Patches
and you will see them all them. 1.25 is the latest (avoid the 1.40 beta).
As for widescreen – you have to edit the Battlefield 2142 shortcut properties so it looks like
“C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsBattlefield 2142BF2142.exe” +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050
where the szx value is the width of your screen in pixels and szy is the height.
You will also need Northern Strike to play on our server 😉

No it wasn’t judge – I was talking about 2142. I know its a way different story with CS:S 😀

Wolf I know you were just letting off steam. Don’t stop playing cos of this. Get into/lead squads if you can. Go as commander if you want a break from the action.

Well. I can’t speak for Max but if there are others who feel the same way as wolf then do please let me know and i will regretfully take my ‘leet’ gaming skillz elsewhere. I would genuinely hate to think that the way I play is helping to spoil the atmosphere on the server and putting people off coming on.
I will say this though. I never change teams deliberately to join max – I play the cards as they are dealt as i feel he does. So 50% of the time max and I will be on the same side. Auto team balance is on – rightly so – so its often difficult to swap sides when there is a percieved inequality in the abilities of the two teams (even when its 4 v 4 as tonight). Often I do swap teams to balance things but I dont do it religiously – why? Because I play primarily as a squad leader – thats the enjoyment i get from the game – so it frustrates me to have to have to give that up, and swap over and start again. There are others who are admirable in the way they swap over – namely Fluff and McQueen and all credit goes to them.
You say ‘sort it out guys’. How exactly? Is there now to be a server rule that Max and I arent ever allowed to play on the same side? Seriously? Or not play in squads? Or would you rather us play with one hand tied behind our backs?
Max is simply an awesome player. I don’t think im anywhere near his league – in fact Fluff is probably nearer max’s skill levels than me. I just play the game as it was designed to be played – forming squads when i can and working together – using different kits as the gameplay dictates – holding back as the squad goes in for the flag, allowing the squad to spawn on me etc etc. Very few others seem to play this way and rarely form squads (sorry if i monoplise the squad leading business – im always happy to let others do it). Often when i swap sides to even teams there will be no squads and no commander and people are complaining then are getting dominated. Well what can i say – Im not going to apologise for playing as squad leader and trying to get as many XDC or team orientated players into the squad. 2142 is just not a game you can expect to play as lone-wolf (excuse pun) and win.
I for one think the squad/commander system makes the more recent BF series. I would hate to go back to the boring, dull linear gameplay of 1942. There’s a lot of dewy eyed nostalgia about 42 – i remember the laughs on the server but i also remember the hanger camping, the nade spamming, the tk-ing for planes, the outrageous air rape that ruined certain maps. For me 2142 is a natural progression with the game and i enjoy it and having fun playing it.
