I am still rather confused as to how you can make a top of the range PC for £350… I spent twice that last year (and tbh really couldnt see much difference in what I had before!).

At no point have I said that a console is superior, merely pointed out that:

    A) Its cheaper. Yes games are usually around £5 more expensive, so I would have to buy 14 before I hit you £70 extra expense threshold… although you mention you have bought most of your games on Steam – good luck selling them! suddenly the 3 games I own are worth more than all yours put together! I assume (but may be wrong) that a PS3 holds its value more than a PC does too

    B) Consoles are more userfriendly – its no secret that I am a bit of a retard when it comes to computers (blew my first one up on the second day of owning it!). I can sit down, start the PS3, be playing in minutes – no problem. It took me half an hour to get my mic to work the other day. Some stupid TS3 option where I could alter my inputs… surely in this day and age it should literally plug and play?

    C) More social – Good entertainment with mates round and beers

    D) Quieter

    E) Less intense

You have largely agreed with A and C, (while B, D and E are based on personal preference). I cannot see how you can conclude that my arguments are crap!

I would also like to add the following which are preferable for me:

    – Everyone has the same kit: you dont get some kid with an ultra fast rig capping all the flags before you enter the game
    – Less likely for games to be hacked (although I understand it is possible)

    Thanks for reading 🙂

Please spec me a fully working PC which I can buy new for less than £279, which will play all these games in DX 11.

I am using this top range PS3 as comparrison. I am sure I can find one cheaper, but think you need as much help as possible.

Extra points if you can get a Blu Ray Player in there.

    Many thanks in advance

Pfft banging PC hardware together is not in the slightest bit difficult.

Almost all PC issues are related to drivers and software in my experience…. and very frustrating they are too.

Consoles are shit… but when i think of all the time over the years I have spent troubleshooting my PC’s over the years…. GRRRRR!

Can you expand on why Consoles are shit?

I pay £10/month for 20mb broad band, with O2 (£15/m withought an O2 phone). Plus £10 ish for BT line.

    It works really well.

Im up for a game sometime.

I have started about 5 SP games, but never played anything all the way through to the end… suffice to say, I find the first half of the game (exploration etc) much more fun than the space bullshit… kind of fizzles out a bit in the modern era.

I am actually free tonight if you are?

Come on! You cannot compare it to the price of a PS3 when it came out, as much as I cannot compare the cost of a PS3 to a PC when they first came out!

I am willing to bet that the graphics on the first ever PS3 were significantly better than on the first PC.

Yes – you are right… it is an unfair comparrison… I am going to rest my briefcase here!

A top of the range graphics card (and the hardware need to support it) will buy you 15 PS3’s at the price I paid 🙂

Btw… I would call this discussing rather than arguing… 🙂

At work, so chosing what I reply to in limited time!

I cant help to draw back to the point that you are comparing the cost of second hand PC equipment with first hand console equipment. Yes a new controller for a Xbox 360 will cost £30 – £40 to buy from Currys but to buy online, or second hand you can easily knock 50% off the price. Consoles are cheaper.

Also factoring in money saved through selling old kit? Really? Ok… I sold my PS2 for £40… suddenly my £110 PS3 is £70. Consoles Win.

However – the most important point is that you are comparing the cost of playing a game online for a PC with playing a game with mates in your living room on aconsole… A more fair comparrison would be MP gaming on both over the internet (where you dont have to buy a second controller), and comparing MP gaming with mates in the same room (where you are surverly limited on the PC – either sharing a keyboard for bomberman type games, or buying controllers for each person at additonal cost – either cheaply for shit, or expensively for the good stuff).
