Works good without it. Stops alot of camping, no dolphin diving, and the gameplay is way more aggressive

Makes seeking cover from tanks a bit more difficult surely? I guess if it’s a tweak to balance/help the overall gameplay though, then I can live without it 🙂

I just cant see a PC without 1000s spent on it liking this option

Multicore processor’s hardly cost the Earth, so long as you avoid the i series top of range stuff. I just hope that, along with my current gfx card, a cheap MB, Quad Core, and RAM, will do the job for me. I expect it will, but there’s always that element of doubt, hence why I’m asking for advice.

Mooky – what are your PC specs?

Cool Mooky, sounds like you’ve a much better setup than me, so good to hear the game’s working out (and to see you again!). I’ve just managed to get into a game for the second time, but sadly it’s not happening for me. The graphical problem I mentioned earlier is fine now, with the driver update, but the game runs at far too low a framerate for it to be playable for me. I was speaking with a guy in work today who was talking about CPU being used in games mostly for Physics, so I wonder whether the destructable terrain would come under this heading, and that the game actually does require the multicore processor it advertises as minimum spec. Mine’s an ancient setup atm, with just a 2.6GHz single core, so I’d be interested to hear from anyone else with a low end system but who does have a multicore processor, and compare our performance. I’m mostly working up my own theory on this though, so if anyone can put me right, or advise me further, please jump in before I spend what little I have on something that won’t help enough 🙂

Yea I noticed the prone thing as well, and it doesn’t feel right despite me being used to TF2, but I wonder if it’s related in anyway to the swan diving that went on in previous versions? Who knows, but snipers aren’t going to be happy about it for sure. As for the upgrade, I’m hoping I can manage it with just a new MB, CPU, and RAM, as anything beyond that will be too expensive.

Well I’m sure there are at least a few of you wondering what the beta’s like, and unfortunately I’m still wondering as well. I managed to get into a game during the early evening last night, but the game performed poorly and my graphics had a very bright blue tint to everything that made it virtually unplayable. Major new game, new drivers I thought, so I downloaded and installed the latest catalyst drivers (released wednesday) either side of a TF2 match. Sadly by the time I got around to trying BC2 again, a major bug had developed within the games server browser which was crashing the game, and the “play now” option was failing to find me any games. This problem’s persisted overnight, and even first thing this morning I couldn’t get onto anything. They are of course aware of the issue, and ingame there’s a news feed advising us all that they’re tying to get to the bottom of it. Given that early access to the beta was used in the marketing of the game, Doc’s probably quite right with his comments last night that this is very poor PR for the company, however before it turns anyone off around here, this is a beta and not a demo, or anywhere near a complete game.

My main concerns are that I’ll have to find some cash for an upgrade, as I’ll be shocked if the initial performance problems are fixed by a single driver update, but I reckon I can do it reasonably cheap so it’s hopefully not too much of a problem. It’ll still be TF2 for me over the next few weeks though, while I work this one out. I’ll post my PC specs later when I’ve seen what difference the driver update has made, so you’ll have an idea of what will not cope with the game, but i suppose I could say that I’ve got borderline minimum spec requirements, and that doesn’t seem to be good enough at this stage.

PC Beta’s available on steam from about 5pm tonight, if I’m reading the timezones right on the BF blog post about it the other day.

Really does look a lot different from previous Battlefield games, much more like call of duty now. Time will tell if that’s a good thing or not, but I suppose one thing COD always lacked for me, was the teamplay aspect in BF, which hopefully this will sort out.

Is there a website that displays them?

I’ll figure out a better way of linking this later when I’m not on remote desktop, but the first post on the BC2 blog is about the squad rush mode, which I can see becoming on the the competitive modes, and considering the numbers of players involved, it looks very compatible with the pickup system used in other games like COD4 and TF2.
