Actually I stopped being lazy and looked it up. 5th March apparently, and 1943 out sometime in Q1 as well oddly enough?
Andy, is there a way to put this up again by any chance, or even provide me with a copy I could view locally? I’m hoping to bring the XDC history thread up to date, but could do with some reminders 🙂
I was talking about it the other day in work and a certain hairless someone said they could lend me a cd, but if you’re wanting a game over the next fortnight I’ll try and download a copy since I’m not going to be in work again during that time.

what server you playing on
I can’t remember the names of the servers exactly, but for the most part I’m picking multiplay ones, and have settled on one that has portugal in it’s name because they seem to play quite late. It’s not ideal though because they don’t seem to speak a lot of english, and last night this lead to one team playing with 10 men, and ours had 4 or 5, yet they did nothing about it. Plenty of others to chose from though, it’s just a case of looking. One slight problem seems to be with the ingame browser not accurately picking on ping to some servers, and displaying ping as zero. It’s sort of a lucky dip if you chose one of these as they can be Europe based with a decent ping, or US based, with a 150+ ping. If I have my name in IRC as Alizr|BF2, just jump on TS and I’ll soon tell you where I am, or slap me a few times and I should hear the ping eventually through the BF2 noise.
That was a lot of fun last night, cheers guys. Alun and me played on until quite late, but were joined by silversides at the start. We did quite well actually, but were basically undone by the pilots on Dragon Valley, and by a clan squading up on Sharqi. The clan who were squadding on Sharqi I’ve been playing over the last week (it’s their server) and last night we actually gave them a game of it for the first time, with our small two man squad taking their 4 or 5 man squad down on our own a couple of times. Big sign of improvement if you ask me, and quite satisfying too 🙂
Oh and sorry for trying to kick you Alun 😉 Luckily the vote didn’t succeed, though it was close!
I’ve got the opposite problem, as I’ve still got my key but I left the cd in an old flat I stayed in a few years ago. If I can get hold of a CD or even just an image of one, I’ll be up for a few games, even though I never really got into it.
Just bumping this to highlight again as our numbers are growing IRC, but we could be doing better. Over the past fortnight there have been signs of significant improvement in XDC, and for me it’s starting to feel more like it used to in the past, but we really could do with more numbers (we’re especially lacking in drunken twats atm :shock:). Remember that the whole point in being part of XDC is that we have a group of like minded people we enjoy playing alongside online, so if you’re still active online and would like XDC to continue as a clan, you could really help us out by joining in. The best place to find us is in IRC, where you can idle and check back for messages. The more of us who use it, the more games we’ll see people involved in, and more we’ll actually interact with each other, and hopefully have fun in the process. Can I also just highlight the word Idle there, as some people are logging on for a few minutes then leaving if no immediate response. The main use of IRC, apart from some chatting (which we actually use TS for mostly), is for tracking what’s going on while afk, so you will sometimes have to wait for a response when you join. Response time will improve with numbers, although it’s actually not too bad atm during evening hours.
Also you don’t need to go through the whole processing of “Authing” with IRC, as people seem quite happy at the moment with the webclient (http://webchat.quakenet.org/ (channel name #xdc).
Good games last night Turks, and later Paddy, I really am completely hooked on this again. 5 minutes into the first game I found myself on the middle point in Taraba Quarry, trying to figure out where I was going, when I ntoiced a 3 man squad moving in from the east. I didn’t want to give away my position just yet as they were still quite far away, and by the line they’d chosen to take to the flag, they’d clearly not seen me, so I lay in wait a minute or two, then popped up at a medium distance when they were on the flag, and fired off 3 consecutive and quickfire headshots 🙂 That was me satisfied for the rest of the evening, and even a 0.5 kd ratio on Sharqi at one point couldn’t dampen my spirits 🙂
Overall my KD ratio is still pretty shit actually, but there were signs last night of significant improvement at last 🙂
It’s also worth noting at least 7 of us have this setup again now and are likely to be playing regularly over the next few days/weeks, and a few others have expressed an interest. Feel free to join in, if you’re not already, and remember IRC’s the best place to come looking.

Partly why I watched it actually (damn you Virgin!) but also thought it’d help put me to sleep last night, which sadly turned out not to be the case as it was just too interesting. Wish I could be arsed to study some of the mathematical theory behind it all though, because when theories are not based on empirical evidence I can’t help but wonder if there’s an element of the emperor’s new clothes about the whole thing.
I think people who create petitions like that are hilarious; what did they ever expect to achieve, a delay in the game’s release? I would rant about them, but I’d just be playing their game…although actually, maybe that’s something to do for a laugh, create a petition against all the opinionated petitioning bastards ever raising another petition, just to show how utterly useless the whole process is.
