I’m sure someone else must have wondered this as well, and I just came across the answer on the battlelog forums.
So basically, this is what determines your skill level on your stats page:
• You gain/loose SL based on every confrontation with another player
• Killing a highly skilled enemy gives you more points than killing someone less skilled
• Points are not transferred from a player to another, they are simply added/subtracted based on the encounter and the SL of both parts (thus, after an encounter, one part may go up 50 points while the other loses only 20)
• The SL is used for matchmaking
anyone know what the Killstreak bonus is for? I’m at 22 and I don’t recall killing 22 people without dying, but it’s just possible, I went 15 – 0 last night in a tank!

Not sure why the killstreak bonus is named the way it is on the stat page rather than simply “highest killstreak”. I guess it’s just referring to the killstreak bonus you get in game for it. Good skills on 22 though, I’ve some way to go to beat it, though old karky got me my highest ever killstreak in a game (maybe not counting tf2) so hopefully the new one will provide a similar chance 🙂
