its fires the projectiles electrically and at an awesome rate of fire, the projectiles can also be fired off in preset sequences. I saw this on a documentary recently and it was a tasty bit of kit.

It’s guns with no moving parts, basically it’s electronically initiated firing of bullets which, they claim, leads to greater reliability (no moving parts), greater versatility (not limited to how and where to put moving parts for triggers so can have much greater diversity of configuration) greater control over rate of fire, as well as increased rate of fire over normal weapons systems, remote operation, etc.

Basically it’s better than mechanical weapons.

I saw these guns a few years back.

They also do electronic, multibarrelled pistols, which can fire a variety of rounds. So you could have one barrel firing Gel Stun rounds, another with armour piercing, another with glaser rounds, another with explosive bullets and one firing good old copper jacketed lead slugs.

    Judge Dredd Lawgiver anyone? 😉

metal storm goes way beyond mere handguns, there is a system in development which will be able to fend off armoured companies singlehandedly, acting as a type of mortar the metal storm system will be able to track multiple targets and coordinate an area strike similar in layout to the mlrs system whcih can take out an entire map grid. Although the system does not have the same firepower as the mlrs it would allow for far greater flexibility, both in deployment and usage. Considering that the platform for such a system is roughly hoped to be man portable, or at least team portable, the amount of firepower that these could place at the disposal of infantry units is truly mind boggling!
