hi there………i’m still stuck on 2000k ip profile!!!
been to the BT speedtester site and got the following result:-
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is – 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was – 1836 kbpsi’ve been doing speedtests every day and am constantly getting similar results to the above as you can see:-

RemoteFastChannelNCD = 0now, all this looks Dutch to me as i’m not a techie but from investigation i don’t think my line noise is too high to cause problems though would appreciate a professionals opinion.
On the nildram website in my controls it shows my maximum stable rate as 8128kbps, my line speed as 8128kbps and my fault threshold as 5689kbps, in my router setup its showing :-Internet Settings
ADSL Status CONNECTED
Data Rate
Downstream/Upstream 8128Kb/448Kb
Connection Type PPPoA
The router is a belkin F5D7632-4 version (1000uk) and i’m using what i believe to be the latest firmware for this particular model; F5D7632v1.UK1.00.09(oct 18 2005 14:12:32).Is my router compatible with DSL 2 ? thats about the only thing i can think of thats causing the service to be throttled other than some restriction at the exchange hence why its showing my IP profile as 2000k!!!

does anyone have any idea what could be causing the throttling ? surely its not simply a case of 2000k being the maximum my line can handle is it ?

Well your SNR (Noise Margin) is ok at 11, the higher this figure the better, although 16+ would be more stable as for your Attenuation 16 is quite low – mine is normally around 40, so not sure what is occurring there.
You should of course test your upload/download speeds at peak times, as this is when your SNR will be its lowest, when more users are online.
How far are you away from the exchange?
During the evenings I have my download speed capped (upon my request) as my SNR would constantly drop to zero and I would loose sync with the exchange. So mine is currently around 2 – 3 MB and I am around 3 – 4km from the exchange.
The way it works is during the initial phase when you get your RADSL it carries out a test to see what the optimum speed should be, now this takes a few days I think, but if more users join your exchange after the tests have been completed and the demand ups (esp in the evening) then your optimum speed will mean nothing and you will constantly loose connection.
Have you had BT carry out a line test etc?
To be honest your speeds dont look that bad, if you are actually getting 1.5 MB download then thats fine – dont forget you might be on 8 MB broadband, but thats not your download speed, you should expect to get around 700 kbps max?

I’ve done speed tests at various times and i’m getting the same kinda results, I’m less than a mile from my exchange to walk so think i’m within acceptable limits to have a reasonable download speed. (thuough i understand the actual distance may vary slightly with line distance)
During the 10 day settlement period i kept doing speed tests but not once did it jump up over 1.9Mb d/l or 0.4Mb u/l….i’m fine with the upload speed, thats what i kinda expected but did expect to get at least 5mb d/l on a potential 8Mb line!!
I’m waiting to hear back from the forum i posted in, nildram techies post in there so hopefully i’ll save myself a wait on the phone 😕
thanks again and hopefully i’ll be able to report an increase in speed at some point in the next week or so.

this would have nothing to do with the ip profile reading 2000k but i’m assuming it shows that my connection isn’t overly bad……….me still thinks (hopes) its an exchange setting somewhere.
Although this isbn’t going to help you I was talking to my B.T engineer of a mate and he said the fastest rated exchange in the whole of Brum is only running at 5.5-6 meg the rest he says is around 3.5.4.5 so basically there’s no real point getting a 8 meg line on a normal telephone line because in Brum the highest you will ever get is around 5 meg. This obviously doesn’t go for NTL where they use fibre optic cable.
thats pretty much what i expected to get; around 5Mb…sadly i don’t have the option of cable around my way or else i’d be tempted to go with them.

Hi Stefano,
I’ve checked your circuit, and you definitely have a stuck BRAS profile. Nothing to do with your router or our network – both are fine. It’s a BT fault in the middle.
I’ve now logged the problem to BT. They should respond in the next 48 hours, and these sorts of issues are usually resolved fairly quickly.
all is good and hopefully i should see an increase in my download speed later this week. 😀

Im stuck in noonooland witha 1 meg con although they offer 20meg lines Im sure i wouldnt get anything sorted out with spanish techies if i was having the same problem 😕scrap ADSL and get cable?
i’m getting full 10Mb speeds and it’s getting upped to 20Mb in may……..granted it’s overpriced and there are a few problems with poeple getting throttled, but hell it’s fast.
heck beer if i could i would have done ages ago but we don’t have cable around my way……..seems real odd as years ago we were one of the first areas to get it! The cabling must still be there but no one provides the service now. 😕
just done a check on the virgin/telewest site and it lists my folks house in the postcode search (number 10) but it doesn’t list mine (number 8) so just perhaps i can get it now……………could be moving up a rank or 3 in the BB speeds 😀
