My sister is looking for a new laptop, specifically a Dell Inspiron from this range:

    http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=uk

I dont know whats hot at the moment, so was wondering if someone could spec me somthing for about £500 which would be good for the following:

    Facebook
    Internet
    Essay writing
    Email
    Itunes
    Portability
    Battery life
    1yr warranty (unless free upgrade)

All dell PCs appear to have Vista, so something that could run that would be better – unless we could rangle a downgrade

    Any help appreciated.

Anyone have any comments on this?

Went for 9cell battery over 6cell – what difference would this give?

sorry. cant really comment on this. Any new laptop nowadays will come with Vista. Any laptop nowadays or from 4 years back will serve you with what you want to do with it. Hell! even a Comodore 64 would surfice! if the most important thing is battery life then that should be your key criteria as any of the rest of that stuff on the list you could probably manage with a digital watch nowadays 😛

i’m gonna be in the market for a new laptop soon, mainly to replace my missus beat up old dell, but i’ve decided to pay a little extra and fork out for an “enterainment” one. My main desktop is starting to make funny noises and smoking when i play newer games, and the newer laptops should piss all over my set up now and i get Bluray to boot.

The one i’m leaning towards is:

    Hewlett Packard Pavilion DV7-1135EA

    Processor – Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz Dual-Core
    RAM – 4 GB (installed) 4 GB (max) – DDR2 SDRAM
    Hard Drive – 500 GB
Operating System – Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
    Screen – 17 in 1440 x 900
    Optical Drive – Blu-Ray Drive
Graphics – NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/asp/versions.asp?rewrite=Hewlett_Packard_Pavilion_3075UK_FV083EA__&pagetype=version&page=

since i really don’t know about laptops any advice, for or against this or any other machine in a similar price bracket would be appriciated
