Thanks to the wonders of alcohol, combined with doc’s incessant nagging, and various other factors, including a desire to play this game (which i never actually lost), I have started playing it again, however I’ve been extremely let down by the options available over the past few days 🙁
Rush, hardcore, and 64 player servers, all have a special place in hell for ruining a great game, but putting all those arguments aside for a moment, what the fuck has happened to the BF community to constantly play x hundred% tickets on the vast majority of servers that I see?
Have we already got to the stage where people only want to play the “best” maps, or are certain maps suited to particular player types? Do people just play this game for a deathmatch on their favourite maps or do we still have a real hardcore out there who enjoy the original BF Conquest experience?
I’m desparing slightly here because I wonder now whether there is any point seeding our server at vanilla/proper settings, or has the interest now gone in the actual game I used to enjoy?
May 5, 2012 at 8:00 pm #82432XDCMADMAXParticipantHC is far more enjoyable for me personally, im not a big fan of death match or rush to be honest, capping flags and killing is ,my game style but for whatever reason (i think its down to our server settings) our server is always dead. Hence the reason, Im hijacking other servers to get a game. (must admit, caspian borders does have a place in my heart)
And whats with the rank 100’s knocking about! I actually saw a server that had a ticket rate of 30 000 yes 30 000, no wonder.
May 6, 2012 at 2:41 pm #82433XDC wild egg tamerParticipantnot having played a BF game now since 2142, would removing the whole concept of ranks, medals and the general reward system return the franchise back to the exciting gameplay days of 1942?
1942 had such a following, the servers were always full and it was played constantly for many years by many people and yet no reward system existed in the game it just makes me wonder if the game would be better without it.
just a thought.
May 6, 2012 at 8:09 pm #82434XDCMADMAXParticipanti play for the enjoyment – not for medals, if i did, I would of had them all by now

I’d even say I was guilty of it myself, the simple fact is despite the graphics sound and realism, the game play is just not deep enough to have the longevity of some of the older games, I think you can thank the cross platform nature of games for that, and the cynic inside me thinks it may be deliberate to make games a little shallow so the next years title makes the money. OR! maybe we’re all desensitised to quality FPS games, I remember the first time I saw counter-strike, I thought it was the most amazing thing ever… I look at it today and it looks and plays pish. Dunno, I’m feeling philosophical tonight. 💡

Think maniac’s hit it on the head here. Something which you couldn’t get enough of 10 years ago, suddenly you’ve had enough. BF3 is the best FPS available right now but it’s just that, an FPS that is better than the 100s of other FPS we’ve all played. The game is still awesome, but I find it difficult to love games and play them for long periods like I used to.

i know the feeling Matt, finding a server which has “normal” settings seems damn hard these days. its mainly, 1000 ticket maps or vehicle only maps.
i have been spending more time on a few servers that run a mix of game modes, conquest and rush alternately on the full map cycle. i really enjoy it as the change of both maps and switching between conquest and rush keeps the pace changing. as for HC and regular i enjoy both so it doesnt bother me but i know some people really dont like HC and others that much prefer it.
May 8, 2012 at 10:58 am #82438XDCMADMAXParticipantIm really fussy with servers (as sprogron know lol) – my pref. is only HC (infantry only – hard to find though) – conquest large!
Cant be doing with Rush or them small shitty 3 flag maps – plus i only play 32 player servers, anything above that, just doesnt float my boat.
May 11, 2012 at 3:37 pm #8243911thSignalParticipantThis is why after playing the beta I never bothered with it. too much like COD and not enough like 1942/bf2
May 13, 2012 at 10:02 am #82440AlzirKeymasterNa it’s not COD mate. I can understand where you coming from in some ways but COD still hasn’t got vehicles, and still doesn’t give you much of a motive to play as a team, whereas BF3 actually does recapture the feel of conquest from BF42 and BF2. The presentation is a bit more like COD these days, but even there BF3’s done a much better job, and I honestly think it’s a good enough title to sit up there as a true BF sequel. My complaint is more that with people playing on these huge ticket servers they’re effectively turning the game into COD by taking away the teamplay element, and it annoys me. It’s a tendency online for people to do this and I remember the same happening with TF2 servers, although in a slightly different way. Luckily not everyone does this, but it was particularly frustrating last week trying to find a decent vanilla setup to play on.
May 13, 2012 at 11:27 am #82441XDC_WolfParticipantalso the beta was metro which is the most COD like map out there

We shall wait and see 🙂
May 24, 2012 at 6:07 am #82443XDCMADMAXParticipantyeah it is frustrating – more and more servers seem to be set to ridiculous tickets
May 24, 2012 at 6:20 pm #82444AlzirKeymasterJust realised it’s quite difficult to follow that link from here, so copy and paste this into battlelog next time you’re on and give me some votes 🙂

June 1, 2012 at 9:18 pm #82445XDCiNSANEParticipantMax, I’ve seen you hounding them 100000000+ ticket servers for your cheap medals, face it, your a dirty fucking whore!
