Greetings Chaps,
Yes, there is a distinct possibility I will be returning to the world of gaming sometime this. It’s a long story which I’m not going to bore you with but I need your advice.
First, what sort of spec should I be looking for in terms of a new PC… I’m totally out of touch so haven’t got the faintest idea what’s what these days.

To answer your question, there have been a few threads about this recently from various people, and I suppose you could use them as a point of reference. WET was looking at some very high end specs which you can read here viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5356.
Munkee was looking for something a bit more reasonable, and I found this link http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/2993521/art/ankermann/quad-hd-special.html which is for a PC that should probably cope with most games over the next 2 or 3 years (according to the person who brought it to my attention).
I’m quite out of touch with new PC specs as well, but I’ve picked up quite a bit from comparing the options floated about recently.
Fancy buying my fancy graphics card – total overkill for my needs!
Although if Milo is getting back in to gaming then maybe I will too! What are we playing atm? TF2 was gash!
Save your GFX card for Bad Company 2 Turks, it’s going to be awesome. As for TF2, get on TS and join us for a game. If you’re playing by yourself all the time, or picking crap servers, it’d be no wonder you think it’s gash.
Where the hell you been turks? You havent ecven been on TS since you bought the new comp!

Bought a fancy new 22″ Monitor too, so ready to go really.
Well, as SWMBO doesn’t want to be SWMBO I am looking for alternative accomodation. I also have a baby daughter to support (yes, me a dad!) the chances of any social life are virtually nil so a new PC is the order of the day…
My last one (yes the one that was used for BF back in the day) is still going. I’m thinking of sticking with MESH as it has been virtually bullet-proof the last 8 years.
So peeps recommend Bad Company?
Any decent WW2 games in the old BF stylee – mods etc.?

forgotten hope 2 for BF2 is probably the best bet regards WW2 action. There was a game called red orchestra that many guys played, more realism etc but not sure if it’s still going.
If it’s still your 1942 PC, it might struggle with BF2 mods (infact even mine struggles with FH2, though that’s more likely a technical problem with the mod). Red Orchestra might work for you, as it’s pretty basic graphically, but even that might be too much for a 1942 machine. The original FH would work, but I doubt many people still play it, though the Rats and Hussars might.
WW2 titles have been lacking the last few years, with developers cashing in with more modern warfare type themes, though as Andy says there is WAW. Bad Company 2 is the first proper BF title since BF2 and looks good, featuring some tidy graphics and destructable terrain, but we don’t know an awful lot about it just yet, except that gameplay looks similar to COD MW2.
Red orchestra is still going, and has mods, superb game. The sequel is out this year, RO: Heroes of Stalingrad
