Hi guys
Gonna try getting Planetside 2 when released, to work with my old rig which is a AMD 64 x2, and x1950pro gc, just dont know if its gonna be up to the job.
So may be in the market for your old PC bits to try and scrape together a system.
If you have anything that is an improvement on the above and can let it go cheap, then depending on how the test goes I may have it from you, funds are a bit tight at the mo coz I aint got a job.
Let me know.
Cheers guys.

i havent played eve for years, i do get tempted every now and then but i know that i will get very bored with very quickly as there isnt anything i havent done in the game. also i dont have the time to dedicate to playing it as much as i once did.
November 22, 2012 at 6:21 pm #84203RecoilUKParticipantHi m8
Thanks it arrived today.
Only problem is it don’t work. But I have now checked the forums and it wont in that motherboard, got something to do with the NVidia chipset although Gigabyte released a patch for there’s, but no such luck with ASUS.
So that’s the bad news, the good news is I got a tax rebate in the post today, so i,m gonna get a new Mobo and CPU etc :), could not of been better timed.
But which one??????????????
Probably an I5 Ivy Bridge but there,s loads so need an expert to guide me.

November 22, 2012 at 6:49 pm #84204LammieParticipantVery much depends on your overall budget… but for gaming and something that would be futureproof (as much as this is realistically possible) I spent months trawling reviews against different processors, Mobo’s, and GPU’s before I finally settled on the i5 3570K Ivybridge processor. Again, it comes down to how much you realistically want to spend either for a shortish term upgrade or something that should see you ok for the next couple of years.
I looked into the AMD’s and whist they are not a bad processor for the price, the current Intel Processors take some beating for price to performance ratios. At the end of the day it comes down to personal, preference, butget and ultimately what you want to use the system for.
If you going down the upgrade route, consider an SSD (Solid State Drive) prices have come down a lot and a decent 120Gb one can be had for around £60-80 and offered a huge performance increase in load times and data throughput.

Who doubted me – oh yes, Lammie lol! 😀
November 22, 2012 at 7:21 pm #84206bmstalkerParticipantAgain, budget depending, could be a good deal.

the best place for CPU reveiws
November 23, 2012 at 2:23 pm #84208RecoilUKParticipantHi
So I have been thinking about this.
These are my requirements…
Resolution for gaming – No more than 1366 x 768 when I get a widescreen but for now 1280 x 1024.
FPS Expected – 80fps everything on high.Games – PS2, BF3 and WOT.
Will an i3 3220 or FX 4300 with an HIS HD 5850 Turbo accomplish this?
That’s it.
November 23, 2012 at 2:44 pm #84209crazy hippoParticipantheya fella, sorry that GFX card doesnt work with your mobo.
for the overall FPS question, if you are using a TFT monitor and unless it support 100hz then you will only ever see 60fps, however i was running it in BF3 with that card on medium with a resolution of 1920×1200 and getting 45fps. so on a smaller resolution you should get 60 relatively easy, although i know that PS2 can be a bit of a bitch. i ran it on low at the res mentioned above and was getting 50 odd fps so it should still be good at lower res.
intel have been the king of cpus for some time with some of the cheaper i5s being hugely overclockable and very reasonably priced. im not an expert but im sure that someone here will be able to help.
November 23, 2012 at 2:51 pm #84210bmstalkerParticipantWhats ur budget and what components do u need? Ill fix u a shooping list tonight.
November 23, 2012 at 3:10 pm #84211RecoilUKParticipantHi guys.
That’s ok m8, it will work with a new mobo, so not all bad.
The specs I have detailed above, but only 60 fps.
Budget is as cheap as possible.
Needed …
CPU retail with Cooler.
Mobo
RAM 8 or 16gb
SSD
Win 7And a question, do I put Windows on the SSD, although i,m not really bothered how fast windows starts, or alternately do I just put the games on it?
EDIT: oh yeah the monitor is an LCD.
Thx
November 23, 2012 at 3:21 pm #84212AlzirKeymasterYea put windows on the SSD, plus the main games you’ll be using. There should be plenty of space on it for the 3 games you listed above.
November 29, 2012 at 5:14 pm #84213RecoilUKParticipantHi guys
New bits arrived today, boots up fine, that graphics card works to Hippo, cheers again for that m8, but I cant install anything, because I assumed IDE was still on the motherboard, so will have to go out to Maplin tomorrow and get a SATA DVD-RW. What a numpty. 😳
