Participantlol yup, apprently! its safe to say, anyone riding at that speed on a bike and then getting into a similar crash has a very small chance of getting up!
Yup, its something all courses and tests can teach you about to some extent, and how to handle it – but itll Never hit home until it actually happens – thats how i see it. I dont plan on something like that happening again, but then, who does? Visibility is the biggest problem with bikes (at least i think), hence buying a hi vis jacket! that 50 pence spent on one can save your life.

No Ryzo, it is safer to ride fast. Wolf posted that assumption to a bikers forum and I’m pretty sure that they all said riding really fast is safer than riding slowly.
Fact.
Anyway, glad to hear you’re okay. A mate of mine had 7 bike crashes that weren’t his fault, each giving him little more than bruises and sprains. He now drives a car since he got the impression somebody was trying to tell him something.

Participantglad to see you’re still in the land of the living mate………….i had a few tumbles when i was doing the knowledge and that was on a poxy honda C90 at low speed, most just involved wet manhole covers or frozen white lines but i had a fair few close misses with fuckwit motorists who had no clue how to use their mirrors…………
i did have a guy trying to knock me off my bike once by swerving into me!! Beleve it or not all because i tried to wave him onto a road from a slip road and when he didn’t make it i put my hand up as if to say “never mind”, this seemed to really annoy him and he then decided to chase me down the A40 swerving into me………….fucking wanker, i hope the cunt dies/died a painful death 👿
In all i done 3 years riding a bike around London and to be honest that was enough for me, i enjoyed the freedom it gave in traffic and had some crazy fun on the bike which tempted me to go for the full licence but in the end i decided that with so many twats driving cars i’d be safer in my big black cab, and contrary to popular belief i think by having the 3 years on a bike around London it has made me a more considerate driver who is far more aware of bikes than perhaps other motorists who have never ridden.
I have a simple philosophy when it comes to motor bikes or the police, i’d rather have them in front of me than behind me, that way i can keep an eye on them and keep myself out of trouble!

ParticipantDeffintly see what your saying mate, and i know what you mean about the freedom! Im going for the full license in december, i think id like to have the best of both worlds – as like you mentioned, when it rains, the drain covers and road markings are EXTREMELY slippery – however, in summer, providing youv got the right protective gear on, motorbikes are fantastic fun as long as u stay aware and alert – but a car for these damper, colder days would be ideal really 😀
Iv been on 2 wheels for about 2 years now, and whilst it dosnt quite compare yet to your 3, i see what your saying, you also get a few jealous people when your filtering through traffic, but you deal with it :)! and the biking communiuty is fantastic aswell! if you break down, u always get someone pulling up to help you out on a bike.

ParticipantThe best advice i can offer is, get straight back on the bike and overcome any anxiety………if the day ever comes that you genuinely feel nervous about riding or being on the bike then get rid of it and get yourself into a car, you will be a danger to yourself and others.
To reitterate the point, i was chatting to a cousin of mine who now lives in Italy last week and he has always ridden bikes as well as driving cars, he’s a very good rider/driver but recently had an accident in Italy, not dissimilar to yourself whereby he nearly ended up under the car! When he got the bike back from the insurance he got back on it and tried riding it for a few weeks but found that he had lost his confidence and felt nervous……he’s turned his back on over 30 years of bike riding as he feels he’s a liability to all motorists…
Whatever the outcome, enjoy the biking and watch out for the fuckwits of the World.

ParticipantI think the point is had you been doing 85 mph then you wouldn’t have been there when the car pulled out on you, so you would statistically be safer, or something like that

ParticipantJust caught the News Ryz sorry to hear about that. Now I blame that fringe of yours It needs cutting!
November 29, 2007 at 6:39 pm #62819XDC_Wolf
Participantplus, if you’d have been doing 11tybillion mph, the fringe would have been blown out of your face and you wouldn’t have crashed.
Speed saves lives. Fact.

ParticipantNo denying it, riding a bike is dangerous. But then so apparently is going to the rescue of someone who’s been in an accident, eh Max ?
Anyhoo, with a bike a slight knock from a car can be the end of you or your ability to walk. Compare that with the fun of riding a bike and I’m pretty happy being in a car, or in the train for that matter.Glad you okay Ryzo, now when are you going to learn, girls go for guys with cars, smart cars ( no not
),
but a nice car, like

ParticipantShit ryzo glad you aren’t hurt, is the bike damage terminal.
I ride a big chunk of M6 to get to work 2 days a week (the other three I’ve got to take the kid to nursery to contract more communicable diseases). I feel a lot more confident now I’ve got an exhaust just on the right side of legal. I t may no have helped in you situation but in general and certainly when filtering traffic loud cans save lives. Also if you do get knocked off you can cram the drivers face into back of the can and hit the throttle “Sorry mate I didn’t se………arrgghhh my beautiful sense of hearing!”
It’s good advice to get back to riding as soon as you can, I dumped my bike doing the emergency stop on my test and had to get an ambulance brought put to me, my helmet was new so I tucked my head in and landed on my shoulder which fucking hurt but no major damage. Got out the ambulance and back on the bike, if I hadn’t I don;t think I would have ridden again. I also commited myself so fully to my next emergancy stop that I slid down the seat and clanged my rattlers on the tank. My Mrs fell off about 30 mins later and got another ambulance but she didn’t ride again for ages and only then round a car park.

ParticipantThanks mate 🙂 Its very possibly that the stearing bearings, of forks are knackered or bent, it did feel a tad wobbly on way back – but could just be the wheel alignment, getting it checked over saturday!
I did buy some lovely slash cuts for my bike, but had to sell them because they didnt fit 🙁 im pretty sure she would of heard me if i had those bad boys fitted!! Yeah – as i metnioned, i cant see it hindering me riding at all, i love driving around on 2 wheels – and i always will =) love to do a major road trip, where and when? im not sure yet, but i will 🙂
Good on you mate! Emergency stops can be a pain, especially when its wet!
