Actuaal I am running Vista for just over a week now and it is not worse than my previous XP-64.
I hav e had the occassional CTD, usually at a mapchange and 1 memory error so far.
On average I think I have had less CTD’s than with XP

F.Y.I the 11E7 F/772 wont run @ 88watts m8 WTF were you thinking?
Neon ‘real’ XP keys are easy maybe you just need some ‘update’ lovin’, if it’s an old PC then I doubt Vista will help unless running it slightly slower and being second guessed every time you try to do anything is what you’re after.
you seriously don’t want to pay this guy’s salary look how he intends to thank you!!!

Well my ‘LeGit’ copy of XP doesn’t allow me to do automatic updates, which is an awful pain, so I doubt that my current OS is up to speed, which is probably a major contributor to my problems. Alas, now I’m a married man I can’t spend hours online tracking down all the latest patches, so I’m resigned to letting my OS do that for me.
I could buy XP OEM, but I’d rather future proof my system with an OS that’ll be around for the next 3 or 4 years. Any idea when the service pack for Vista will be out?
Do nothing. I have a way of getting around the not being able to update bs 🙂
Takes seconds

I find Vista perfectly ok nowadays I have just as many problems with XP as I do with Vista so to me there’s no real difference.
brilliant, a perfect endorsement! 🙂

September 28, 2007 at 7:04 am #59249XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantCheers for the advice guys, particularly the Sprog and the Judge, who I think have shamed the rest of you with their computer knowedges.
My logic behind XP was that I might as well settle on an OS that I’d use for the next few years now, however I had a chat with a friend of mine who has given me an old XP license so I should be able to use that in the meantime and activate updates.
Cheers for the offers of *ahem* special software that may help. Your feedback has been most helpful, and I wasn’t going to take the Vista leap lightly (I normally wait until there’s been at least 1 service pack before jumping ship).
Incidentally, last night the wife asked me what ‘Halo’ was. She then had about 10 minutes of my overly enthusiastic response, trying to explain who Master Chief was and why the Covenant wanted us dead. She just gave me a blank look and said that we should upgrade my PC so I could play it. Bless her.
But it looks like I’ll be sticking with XP until at least my next rebuild.

Ahh the HA store room.. he’s a good friend 😀
P.S. you might want to ask your missus for a 360 so you can play Halo 3 instead of oldie Halo 🙂
September 28, 2007 at 7:44 am #59251XDCMADMAXParticipantYeah, get online for some beasting! The multiplayer is quality.
