I don’t agree with sports hunting, personally. Deer vs gun is pretty one sided and the poor bloody animal doesn’t stand a chance.
Shoot pictures, not bullets.

When you’ve evened the odds a bit by hunting a bear with just a knife, then come and speak to me.
Killing animals for fun – no thanks.

Participanthunting is a natural human instinct. In the case of people who hunt and fill their freezers with their trophies so they have food for the next few months untill the next hunting season then good for them. If you are a veggie lensman then fair play to you but if you like a bit of bacon or a nice steak or succulet fish then how do you feel about farming and slaughter methods? or do you forget about all of that when the plate is in front of you? 😉
PS why bother with the knife? why dont you just let the bear rip you to shreds as it would probably do. even with a knife! 😛

ParticipantI’m not a veggie. I like a good steak and a bacon buttie as much as anyone.
Hunting and killing wild animals for fun is a completely different argument to the raising and slaughtering of farm animals.
I see you got my point about hunting a bear. There’s no “sport” in killing an animal that is no threat to you. You + long rifle vs. a deer is purely about waving your willy in the air and saying what a good shot you are, and aren’t you great.
I’m not namby pamby or naive enough to say that no animals should be killed. There is often justification for even wholesale slaughter of wild animals in order to protect something or restore a balance that was screwed in some way.
Take, for example, the possum. Ahhh…how cute. And in Australia pretty rare and some species are endangered. But a few hundred miles away in New Zealand they’re a threat to the environment and mass killings go on all the time. Rangitoto Island near Auckland was the scene of thousands of the things being killed in order to protect the natural habitat of the original flora and fauna.
That is hunting for a purpose. Not for leisure.
Man hunting to pick up the odd dear to feed on for a while – well, fair enough, but its not like there aren’t alternatives down the supermarket. Lets face it, if hunter boy – who justifies hunting by saying he eats the animal – ran out of prey (they were extinct), he wouldn’t starve would he? A quick run down to Tescos and he’s got all the burgers he wants. So this hunting-for-food is not about survival – as Spunks said, its about trophies.
One of the issues lies in the manner of sport hunting animals like deer and elk. In the wild, the old, sick, and infirm animals are generally victims of the predators. But when good-old-boy (no disrespect Queeks :)) – or even city slicker (no disrespect Pharty :)) – jumps into his pickup with a big fuck-off gun, the last animal he is going to kill will be the knackered one. Oh no – he wants the biggest rack he can see, on the biggest finest animal he can, so he can kill it, charge off home, and wave his willy in the air going “look at me! I shot that! What a man I am!”.

Hi sorry to offend you Insane, but have you actually informed yourself about the harm that the grey squirrel does to britans eco system? They have nearly made the reds extinct, they are bringing numerous birds near to extinction, and if you think they are fluffy, your also wrong. A grey squirrel is just a rat that lives in trees, do you like rats?
And you ever heard of a national list of vermin? Crows are on them, and they are there for a reason.
Chavs will be on there too once it gets reviewed again 😆
