ParticipantJust joking it’s a good little phone. Good for the internet and a great texting interface. However, the screen seems scratch prone, so beware!

ParticipantCmon Andy we need more info than that!
Why is it good?
Are you worried that you might not get new android updates as quick as you would like because it has a proprietary front end?

Participantok a few more days with it and it just gets better by the day..
@doc yes, the only real pain is the vodafone side of it.. there is quite a bit of unremovable crap ware which is nuts.. there must be a hack to get rid of this shit.. it comes with 2.1 but the 2.2 is guestimated to be by the end of the month.. i guess the real frustration will be after they 18 months old and vodafone cant be arsed to update it.. having said that the galaxy s is fast becoming a huge seller so safety in numbers and all that..the samsung front end is actually rather good. it gives you 6 or so screens which sit over an image and moving between the screens scrolls along your image.. very nice. to move anything from the application list to the front you just press and hold and the frotn screen appears… let loose and bingo you have new shortcut on the front
the phone comes with Swype a new way of entering text. instead of tapping you jsut run your finger from key to key and it figures out what you were trying to swype.. it works and is insanely fast for a touch keyboard. see vid
[youtube:ixipyeeg]pTooBnKAdSw[/youtube:ixipyeeg]what impresses me most is how interconnected the aps are.. click on a web link and the right software to handle th mime type kicks in.. it has surprised me a few times with how well it works.
battery is so so .. it looks like it will get through a day of normal use .. will feed back on this once i get back to work.. i have abused it like mad over the weekend and has still only needed one charge per 24 hours.. i will be happy if i only need to charge it at night.
web browsing is a dream but the lack of flash is a pain.. roll on 2.2
it is remarkably light.. which while good I think I would feel more comfortable with a slightly more solid design.. Lis got the sony erikson xperia.. still a 4″ screen but it has a weightier more solid feel to it.. i guess this a taste thing. You are left wondering how something so light can do so much.
it is responsive and only once while flicking between a dozen tasks did it pause for a second..
i will know more after a week back at work with more normal use
oh the google sat nav is great.. being able to flick to satellite view a see all the land marks around you very useful.. i have read some reports of inaccuracy.. will test while i am out and about today
windows 7 does not seem to recognise the drivers…
available here http://www.2shared.com/file/y_XR2tT9/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.html
have not used the kies PC software yet..
the headphone that come in the box are in ear jobs and are amazing.. the bass produced is the best i have ever heard from in ear phones and the quality of sound put out by the phone is the best portable music i have ever heard.. blows the socks off of our lasses ipod touch.
more to come as i use this little miracle..

ParticipantHey ho gents,
i have the HTC Desire running 2.2…..fecking awesome (unlocked so no branding) some cracking apps, google maps (street view omg), google sat nav, calender apps lot of shit in the market but some good stuff…Handcent for texting, Fotmob for footie scores, rss readers, dropbox which is handy, the standard browser is great (flash :)), handles multiple accounts amazingly well….barcode reader with google shopper is freaky….battery life is way short with 3g,wireless etc running, few handy apps to sort that out.
was gonna wait for winmob7 but seeing as the previous winmob have been lacking i thought better of it, glad i did.
Android is a cracking format.
regards grumpy ole bastard nOm

Participanthad one for bout a month with vodafone, cost me 50 quid but half price line for 6mnths, makes it a tenner a month 300 mins unlimited txt, 500mb net.
Love it so far, dont use the kies software its shite, slow n buggy. Battery is better than i thought, other half had an HTC Magic a year ago n she was constantly chargin it up, she now gone for the HTC Wildfire, which is on ok phone pretty much like the desire but loads cheaper but a fuckin shit screen, its really bad! and the battery life on that, IMO, isnt as good as the galaxy.I did hear that Froyo may have been put back til late October tho….
(BTW i did want a Desire but the retention people wouldnt budge!)
