I am sick of the excuses England always seems to come out with, first it was the fitness, now the heat, come on guys! Lampard and Gerrard cannot play together, Owen is slow and way off what he used to play like, Crouch – well need I say it! (Hyped) And yes, a win is a win, but we won by a lucky own goal and if we played a team of better quality and skill, then the outcome, I think, would have been different! Answer is – Rooney makes England tick, without him we dont!

What do you want? England to play top class football every match? it’s the group stages of the competition, we lead the group and another win will almost garuntee us qualification. Fact is we won, not convincingly, but we were solid at the back, and we can score goals up front, we just din’t click, and I think that’s just through not playing enough games together in the curent format.

Rooney is excellent, there is no doubting that, but we NEED him to win? we didn’t have him on Saturday and we won, or the week before against Jamaica when we thrahsed them 6-0. It sickens me that a win is criticised because it doesn’t meet your entertainment levels. Remeber that there is no bigger threat than the underdogs ina ny sport, Paraguay played their best game of football in recent times against us, they raised their game, as we will raise our game against Brazil, and if they don’t then they have learnt nothing from the Rugby winners or the Ashes team, you eed more than a great team to win major tournaments, you need a great team with great team spirit and the knowledge of when you need to play yourself to death and when you don’t need to.

For the record, it was a dire game, only livened up by some good play from Beckham and Cole at times.

Can I just say that England are not Brazil, and even though you do have great talent in the shape of Lampard, Gerrard and Cole, you cannot throw a team together and hope for the best.
Enter Sven, who’s had….is it 6 years now….to get things sorted, and what does he do ? He still brings on Hargreaves! And downing for Owen ? Sorry, but if England do win the world cup or come close to doing so, it won’t be a matter of “because of Sven”, but rather “despite Sven”
And I can’t see it getting better under McClaren. England needed a tactician to bring the best out of a talented crop of players.

Wolf, can’t say I agree with your last statement. If England had conceded a goal then I doubt they would’ve come back. There’s a difference between a team playing concededly and within themself, and a team struggling. England were struggling.

I so want to see England play like they did in Euro 96! We were awesome, we all remember the Holland game, go on Shearer! With the quality we have, we should be playing the same if not better and we seem to be far from….. Bring back Venables!
