Just don’t play this map on hardcoee paddy, it’ll be worse.
December 3, 2011 at 11:55 am #80237AlzirKeymasterWe had numerous complaints about 77Qball77 using this last night on Canals, and his 18 kills for 0 deaths demonstrate how bad this is getting. Now the guy’s score was rubbish, sitting mid table, and his team were losing badly, so it was pretty much a waste of a player, on this occasion, but I’m personally getting tired of being raked by a hail of AA anytime I wander near the shore on canals, whether that be in a vehicle or otherwise. From the complaints, it seems that I’m not the only one.
Now I’m all for your stance Doc, in just playing the game the way it’s designed etc, but this is a clear flaw and abuse of map design in my opinion. It generates numerous complaints, and I know of at least one person who hasn’t played on our server since we refused to act on this during the first week of release. In my opinion we should act on this in future.
I banned Qball last night because of the complaints in game chat.

Yeah agreed, totally ridiculous! Agreed, it is a waste of a player but when you work so hard to cap both B and C flags, running in to ground infantry and then to be taken out by the AA gun (yes at C!) it makes my blood boil!
I like this map, it happens to be one of my favourite maps and I will not stop playing it, we just need to make it clear, that if this tactic is used, then warning and a kickingban will be implemented
December 3, 2011 at 2:37 pm #80239XDC_WolfParticipantthat way madness lies, how do we know if the AA isn’t shooting at a vehicle (which I assume it’s valid to do by your rules) and hits one of us? we going to start threatening them? kick them? I see it as a straight choice, have the map on and put up with it, or take the map out of the rotation till it’s sorted (which it probably will never be seeming that they increased the damage to infantry in the last patch!). A halway house of adding more work to the admin decisions is just going to be a pain in the arse for all of us who admin.
December 3, 2011 at 3:37 pm #80240AlzirKeymasterIt’s clear when a player is sitting and constantly raking the shore and hills of the maps seeking random hits and kills. It’s clear as day when they do this all round long.
It’s not the type of player I want to see on the server and am more than willing to put the time in to weed them out.
December 3, 2011 at 3:49 pm #80241AlzirKeymasterJust to add a bit of perspective here, this isn’t just about 1 or 2 people racking up a long series of kills. It has almost become standard on our server to feel the ping of bullets on the hull of any armour as you move between A and B. If you’re infantry, it pretty much eliminates the coastline as a route to take, as it does the hill over C, and last night I saw how easy it is for the gunner to shoot down the canal between the A and D route. For me that’s far too much. Hits on armour are irritating at least, but hits to infantry are more or less one shot kills since the patch. It’s cheap play not wanted on a server bearing our name.

Its not easy and if anyone wants to spoil a great inf map with armour then them getting rapped by something they cant kill is just deserts for me tbph. I just wish there was something on the other side that would do the same in return, but i guess thats where 2 rounds per map would make it even.

There is no issue here vs armour, rather the constantness of the hail of bullets from the carrier. If you’re in armour and on this map, it is rare you’re not being pelted by bullets from the AA on point B. If you’re on foot, the same between A and B, and on occasion near C as well as on the low route between A and D. The point is how common and constant it’s become.
Also, when did canals, or any BF map for that matter, become infantry only?

December 4, 2011 at 12:55 pm #80245XDC wild egg tamerParticipantdon’t have the game so don’t flame me but is the problem with this AA any worse than the AA on BF42 on the airfield by the hangers where you could take out the map planes when the took off as well as take out any foot soldiers or indeed the AA on the ship on Coral Reef where you could take out the Def gun on the shore?

Any other situation in bf3 would be fine, but this is a bit like on Coral sea where you could shoot people on the shore of the first island if they bailed out over there, except in BF3 the range on the AA is much further and the Line of sight is unobstructed to several areas of the map where infantry is normally active. Essentially the US side have a giant minigun which covers approximately a third of the active game area, and it’s next to impossible to kill the gunner.
December 4, 2011 at 10:06 pm #80247XDCSprogParticipantAlzir,max and messy have the best approach to this problem imo, I got capped by this qball chap in the game mentioned, I was to the left of the containers near enough down underneath the bridge and was amazed I could be shot by aa down there,I was one who typed kick him !!!
It’s not in keeping with the spirit of what XDC is about,it’s not the type of player who should be present, I have no problem if someone is in it,shoots down. A chopper or a plane and takes an opportune shot at some infantry running along the shoreline getting a couple of kills in the process……but at that point a request to refrain should be made…..if the response is negative…….kick/ban would be in order
I certainly don’t think the map should be removed depriving everyone else of the opportunity to play this fantastic addition to the rotation because one tard wants to rack up an 18-0 score…….and believe me I could do with a few of those scores myself !!!
I would love to sit in that steel barricade doing it to get into positive figures, but I wouldnt do it on our server, or any other server with my tags on……so. Won’t be doing it anytime soon.
Eggy…..it’s a bit like the spawn camping debate in 42,some see it as fair game, some see it as wrong,me for one….it’s clearly a fault in the game……..its way too powerful at present………and I’m sure it will be patched eventually………in the meantime one tard can ruin it for everyone else fighting fairly on the ground.
KICK/BAN depending on the persons response……and don’t feel a pang of guilt about it after it’s done imo.
