Everyone is so quick to right this game off! So what, ok it took EA 4 patches to get a game working, hell, it took them 5 before bf1942 was ever playable, to not buy a game from EA just because of EA past history, then i dont get it, you lot who complain about EA, how many of you have got 1942 and BFV! Stop your whimpering!

First off with BF’1942 they had an excuse, it was a new type of game as far as I was concerned which was frought with unanswered questions, especially on the game play front, one of the reasons I didn’t like ‘nam when I first got it was because of the m60 imbalance, something I never felt they got right. As for not buying something because of the past history of the company, it is the type of purchasing decision you would make any day, you wouldn’t get a new model of a car you have had reliability problems with for example, regardless of how good it was, you would wait until you had some real results before you commited to it. Your blind faith in EA s something that puzzles me TBH, you may have enjoyed BF2 but I was overall disappointed with it, the actual idea was there, but they failed to deliver and seemed to take little notice of the community.

To be frank Max, I won’t get 2142 because EA and DIce have failed to deliver on their potential, which I admit is tons of poential, with this franchise and I don’t trust them to ever do it. I would love for them to prove me wrong, but until there are 3 or 4 months of trouble free gaming with 2142, (and by this I mean big trouble, not just small niggly problems) then I might consider, but buying it blind? I would be a mug, and so would you!

Wow u think EA is bad with patches you should try Activision/CA’s total war series, amazing games but they never fix the things that need fixing!

I think 2142 has potential but I really don’t get on with the whole sci fi element in fps games ( give me good old cordite any day) Titan mode is funky however and it is fairly fun with the mech walkers, for me the most entertaining part of the game was losing my graphics inside the titan and using max as a guidedog even if they all left me to run in circles in the reactor room once the hull was destroyed squeeling like a stuck pig on ts 😀

I´ve tried the demo now for 3 days and my personal opinion is: CRAP

The feeling during a match is “spongy” (hope, this term matches).

For god sake, there will be some (better) alternative games in the next few months like Crysis, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (will be the best I think), Armed Assault …. not to forget the mods coming out for BF2 like Forgotten Hope or BG:Frontlines (advertise 😉 )

I hope, your server will run BF2 again, ´cause its one of the few out there with real templayers on it.

Forgotten Hope – yawn…..it’s so many months late it has completely missed the boat. The same is true of any BF2 mod now – there may be a handful of fanatics players, but that will be it.

I predict that FH will soon make an announcement that it is porting to the BF2142 engine, and there’ll be another 18 months of waiting for nothing.

Anyway, I think some people are getting a bit too religious on the question of to get BF2142/RO/Quake/the-next-game-to-be-hyped-by-anybody. All of these are simply something you play £20-£30 on for a few hours entertainment. That’s a few trips to the cinema or a couple of nights down the pub. It’s really not that big a deal.

    But the BF2142 engine is the BF2 engine…….. 🙂

But the BF:V engine was the 1942 engine, tweaked. Same but different. It’s the differences which make it a ballache to port mods 🙁

Well, I think you know what to expect with the BF series (good or bad) but my problem is that there other games coming out and pretty much the same time which I think look better. So no point me getting it because I won’t have time to play it.

Canis Canem Edit is out a week after BF2142 so if you’ve got a PS2 then you might want to look at that first before deciding where your money goes – if you liked the old Back 2 Skool games this could be right up your street. Looks good.

Plus if you are a footy fan then Pro Evo 6 is out on the same day.

Worth mentioning too for all the people here who enjoyed that nonsensical mongoliod bollocks that was Oblivion – you might want to look at Gothic 3. I think it’s out this Friday.

Been playing this wkd to see what’s what? Hmm initially I was a bit disappointed, the way the soldier runs and moves just doesn’t feel right to me after the more frantic action of BF2. However, I’ve tried it some more and it’s grown on me. I agree with some other comments that the game will become a lot more enjoyable once you’ve full access to unlocks and things. I also hope that some of the other maps are more close quarters based. Gulf was quite vehicle based so I hope that’s how they’ve gone with this one too.

SO far as the Titans go? I agree it would have been fun to go wondering through differently designed ones. I’ve really enjoyed defending them though, ducked down behind a bulkhead near a terminal, popping them full of tasar fire as they rush the corridor. Mint!

Well I’ve got it on order and don’t plan to change that.

    Ditto what erratic Space said
Although I havent got mine on order yet 😉
For me Gulf of Oman was a map I got bored with very quickly therefor I poopooed BF2 more or less straight away at the start until I played my 1st Karkand map and thought W00T this aint so bad after all. the whole squad thing brought a new dimension and adapted style of gameplay that marked a more team orientated game than 1942 offered. Bugs? didnt bf1942 go up to 1.6? games need to be ironed out and unfortunatly in most cases the general public are the Guinea pigs but you must understand the logic. Unless your pc is a standard retail Dell or Hp or whatever then the chances are that your setup is made up of a combination of many thousands of different setup styles therefore software developers are constantly dealing with compatibilty isues on all fronts. I think in a lot of cases things do get rushed because some twatty bigwig is saying “WE” have to be 1st whereas perhaps a smaller company that has something to offer can take a bit more time and not be so under pressure by their own success.
OK 1942 was great because it was based in a past that we could relate to visually or even through friends or family. Vietnam also. then BF2 was in the not too distant future, somewhat harder to relate to yet not unconcievable. Now of course its one hundred years later and who knows what that would be like (trips to the moon on a steam train anyone?)
perhaps we also feel a little alienated and that is turning us all a bit into Victor Meldrew. Things are moving a bit faster than they were when 1942 got released and in just the same way as: the faster your computer gets the more impatient you get when its trying to proccess something perhaps we should accept it and leave our ultimate criticism to how much or little pleasure we get out of this playing in an environment of friends 😉
    there… rant over 🙂
