Saw the CGI manga film ‘Appleseed’ last night and it did verily rock. It’s a remake (of sorts) of a previous film of the same name, which was a bit of a let down after reading the comic book. This one delivers in spades, with hulking cyborgs, battle suits, 2142(ish) machine guns and lots of action. Also a fairly coherent plot, which is often a rarity for those crazy Jap animators.
The animation itself is cell shaded, which might not be to everyone’s taste, but I thought looked pretty good.
Great anime, but only worth a look if you really like that sort of thing.

Gutted, I lost me original disc.. Still got the box though, which is kool I reckon its mixed up with the discs from My ex’s Friends boxset! 🙁
I cant wait for they day they release Fist Of The North Star on DVD.. best Anime ever.. loved it… and Urotsuki doji is a fab film also.. lots of monsters, porn and blood!
I suggest Ninja Scroll If you’ve not seen it too Mr Neon

Fist of the North Star does indeed kick ass, as does Ninja Scroll. Urotsuki doji I think though is a required taste. I personally prefer the TV shows since they tend to be a little more succinct.
Cowboy Beebop, Samurai Champloo, Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell are some of my faves.
March 20, 2007 at 10:50 am #49051XDC Erratic-SpaceParticipantWasn’t Fist Of The North Star on C4 ages back? I swear I remember watching a few episodes at some crazy-ass time-o-the morn? If it’s the one I’m thinking of it was really good.

The site I stream them from has also changed from the duvbbed versions (which where done very well) to crappy white subtitles which are hard to read…. not happy 🙁

March 21, 2007 at 7:49 am #49059AnonymousParticipantAppleseed 2004 was very nice – I watched it around Christmas I think…
Urotsukidoji was not that good… I haven’t watched it since 2002… but it was kinda funny that the god guy was a pervert.
Fist of the North Star is OK but nothing special – it is pretty funny when he screams launching his thousand hand slap attack but despite the action it’s pretty slow going.
The Guyver is 1 of my faves though 😛 I bought all 12 VHS and the OVA, also imported the OVA soundtrack and a nice 12″ Max Factory model for my room. There has been a much more recent series (2004 too I think) which follows MUCH closer to the original comic storyline and has a lot more episodes as well as Guyver Gigantic 😀
Also Final Fantasy fans (as y’all PC bods it won’t be many) Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children carries on from 1 of the best games in the world… it’s an ok film and redoes some of the original score but as with a lot of ‘deep and meaningful/japanese’ stuff it can get a bit boring in places.
The only shite thign I have is I have VHS for most Manga anime under the sun, except my VCR is goosed 😛 I have downloaded ‘baclups’ of the VHS I do own though 🙄
March 21, 2007 at 7:54 am #49060XDCMADMAXParticipantI grew up and stopped watching cartoons. 😀
