.. me gfx card (evga 8800 gts sc 320mb) finaly died on me about a month ago, fortunately it had a 10 yr warranty so thought RMA. Unfortunately i cant find me original reciept from Overclockers, so was stuck using the wifes laptop trying to find a new card, only had about £100 budget n it was lookin like a 5750 or nv 450, but, while trawling thru overclockers forum for some ideas (didnt post here coz didnt know password email all different etc.) someone mentioned ‘the oven trick’, it sounded stupid but i had nothing to lose, so i pre-heated the oven to gas mark 6 n stuck me card in, after removing heatsink, fan etc., for 8 mins let it cool down reassembled it and it only went and worked!
Not sure how long it will last but for now everything seems ok, temp at about 50. SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

September 29, 2010 at 6:31 pm #77444XDCiNSANEParticipantI fixed my old xbox using xclamp fix, and I’ve fixed others using heat gun and the towel tricks, Its all about heat resoldering dodgy connections 🙂

this is the 1st chance I have had to put this card back in the system. I have to down grade my pc to a 8800 .. one of fluffy bunnies cast offs after my beautiful 4870×2 went up in smoke..
before I pulled it out of the system the artifacts on the screen (including post and bios) were so bad I could not even log on…
well…
I am typing this on that old 4870×2.
there is not an artefact to be seen.. ok so it is early days and this is not 3d.. back in a but to report on a spot of gaming
cautiously optimistic …
October 4, 2010 at 8:46 am #7744911thSignalParticipant4870×2 was a cracking card, still is mind.
October 4, 2010 at 10:04 am #77450xdc magickerParticipantstellas.. i love you and want to have your babies..
I almost cant believe this but I have just had a quick game of BFBC2 on my written off £380 4870×2 card!! unbelievable.
This thing was toast I tells ya.
I have fun fur mark at full settings for half an hour and upped the settings on bf and had a good quad bike run around.
amazing!
only odd thing is that the fan does not want to go fater than 30%… think i must have put the fan cable on the wrong way around.. easily fixed.
The reason it died in the 1st place you may recall was I allowed too much dust to build on the heat sink leading to extreme over heating.. so this time i have left the plastic top loose so i can easily access the heatsinks without having to take the whole card apart (read.. I forgot to screw it on.. its a feature not a bug)
