i want to work out how long a 3.8gb file will take to download over a 8mb pipe.

    what’s the math?

i’m working out around 8 mins but somethings telling me it should be nearer the hour!

    too tired, head hurts!!

i think i’ve got it and where i was going wrong:

    download speed is 8mb/s

    so 8×60=480mb/s

3.8gb=3891.2mb/480=8mins……….so i thought but then remembered that it’s bits not bytes so i multiply the 8 mnis by 8 which gives me 64 minutes!!!

    Is that right?

64 minutes sounds about right. my calculation came out at 72 minutes

    🙂

    3986×1024 = 4081664mb

    4081664/800k = 5102.08

    5102.08/60 = 85.03 minutes
