KeymasterOk, I’m fed up with virgin tv, and the bt offer atm for infinity plus free sports for a year (i know the limitations) caught my eye. The tv package is a little inferior to that on sky, which wouldn’t have the sports limits etc, but the price difference between my quotes is almost £30 extra for sky. The difference between BT Infinity and sky fibre doesn’t appear to be too much, though I think infinity would edge it. So what I want to know is whether anyone here has experience of either, and in particular if anyone has switched from sky to bt, in which case, what’s it like in comparison?

ParticipantSorry can’t help too much. I phoned sky last week wanting to cancel as I thought 70 quid a month was too much and the BT package for fibre was better. Sky offered me my existing package for 45 quid a month, no fibre but I can live with 18meg for a little longer.

ParticipantI switched to infiniti cable a while ago as virgin was being appalling and I haven’t looked back. I still have virgin tv as I refuse to have sky 🙂

ParticipantThe only real difference is that BT throttle p2p at peak time where as sky don’t. I think BT also have a faster up speed at 20mb/s but i haven’t looked into it for a while so not 100% on that.
I’m on skys standard broadband service and it is rock solid. Cant remember the last time i had a problem with it.

KeymasterWhat sort of pings do you get on sky, where you are?

I have never been throttled on infinity and im up to 8ombs, im not getting quite that but its not far off it. not that anything over 10 is actually required unless you download lots or are a company.

they are good when they work, but their service has long down times and periods of awful performance.

ParticipantMust admit that was the case initially but now its been ok – but yeah I did experience painful support but there probably isnt much difference in that regards to the other broadband providers.
