If you watch one foreign film in your life ever, please make it this one.
Set in the slums of Rio de Janiero, the film follows the life of the denizens of “The City of God” a housing project outside Rio, where all the poor were basicaly dumped. (Think of Milton Keynes without roundabouts.)
It takes the protagonists from childhood to their various fates, some grizzly some not so.
Although it is in Portuguese it’s really easy to follow and it’s the best gangster film ever. The action is non-stop, and you can see how cheap urban life is in Brazil.
Truly awesome filmmaking.
In one of the dvd extras the director goes on to explain how Neon tried to bum him as bent over to pick up a roll of gaffer tape. Proving once and for all Neon is the Gheyest of the Ghey.
