A man who blew up a roadside camera after he was caught speeding has been jailed for four months. Railway worker Craig Moore, from Doncaster, thought he could destroy the evidence if he oblitered the camera. The 28-year-old used explosives taken from his work welding railway lines to destroy the camera, causing £11,700 of damage.
But the images of him speeding through the Hyde area of Manachester were stored in the camera base, Minshull Crown Court heard.
And images of him returning to wreak revenge on the carnera were also stored in the base.
Moore admitted a charge of damaging property at a hearing last month.
His defence lawyer, Andrew Bailey, said: “The defendant accepts that he has created a mountain out of a molehill by behaving stupidly.
“He finds himself in a great deal of trouble rather than the little deal of trouble he would have been in.”
In fact, he would have been in no trouble had he not returned to destroy the camera.
Tameside Council confirmed that the Watchman camera was designed to deter speeders, not catch them, and that it flashed only as a warning.
However, the Watchman does contain cameras which monitor the area, and those are what caught Moore.

apparently he also used his company van to drive to the camera to blow it up… he then parked it infront of the camera….. it also had a GPS relay on it which showed him as parked at the camera on the day it got zapped!!

Dunno if you folks have this in other parts of sunny Englund, but round our way (Cheltenham) the cops use three mobile cameras. Two are mounted inside white vans with speed camera logos on the back, not on the front, so you look in your rear view mirror as you are doing 60mph passed a school and you see a white van, think to yourself “faggy coont white van right up my butt, I’ll show him” – put your foot to the floor, TEUFF_TEUFF_TEUFF, smile for the traffic cops, pulled over instant fine on the spot.
The last camera is in a Merc, a big fook off silver Merc that regularly patrols the A40, if you have this car behind you, better just pull over and start crying, I’ve seen this Merc chase what looked like a ZXR, at high speed the biker was fooked, best get off road quick, like them Duke boys.
