Community Update – 5/25/06
Attention Soldiers and Server Admins!
After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.
We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this change has taken place.
Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows “Hosts” file must be removed.
The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as they become available.”
Thank you,

And in english?
May 26, 2006 at 8:21 am #25606RonathonParticipantThere is/was an alternative ranking (AR) system put in place by a third party, so that mods could be ranked and some players in countries that didn’t have rentable ranked servers could us it.
It looks like in order to use this you had to redirect where the game sent your stats data to i.e. the AR server and not Gheyspy.
Following the good idea that last minute updates are it changed the protocol on the way stats/server are handled (which may have totally killed AR system) and caused people that had used the AR system to crash whenever they clicked ‘Join’
Well that’s what I can gleam from posts I’ve read.
May 26, 2006 at 8:41 am #25607XDC MadHippyParticipantAnd… Your ‘Hosts’ file can be found in c:winntsystem32driversetc or in some case c:windowssystem32driversetc allthough I think what they’re saying is a load of bollox. If you do find some strange addresses in the host file just rem the out by putting a # in front of them (I’ll look after work)
Didn’t we all download a mod recently that had an alternate ranking system? I think Max started the thread???… 💡
