Ea has now launched EA Link which is a direct replacement for the EA Downloader tool.
However, there are some players reporting issues after installing the new software. Most of them are experiencing ‘Invalid CD Key’ when attempting to join an online game. Some are having to download their content again 😯

however this also remains to be said that it could be ‘User Error’causing this issue.
I’ll post any updates I get here 😉

1. Navigate to C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsEA DownloaderCache copy you username folder, e.g Numptybollocks99 to another area on your harddisk or desktop.
2. Run the EA Dowloader from the desktop shortcut and it will say updating EA Download version to Blah Blah Blah. Let it run and install the new software.
3. Once the software has installed closed down the EA Link software by right clicking the grey EA circle icon running in your taskbar and then select ‘EXIT’4. Locate where you copied your original Username folder and then copy it to the following directory C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsEA LinkCache
5. Run the EA Link software via the desktop shortcut, login using your EA.com details (the same one you use to login to EA Downloader) and you are good to go.
Cheers
Lammie

Mine went tits up. Tried a few fixes and got it running only to get repeated punkbuster kicks due to duplicate guid. Gonna download the thing again (for the last fookin time)
reminds self to edit shortcut to stop downloader running when I start 2142
November 1, 2006 at 4:38 pm #37758RonathonParticipantDoes editing the desktop shortcut to pace.exe (instead of launcher.exe) avoid launching the EAD? and therefor you wouldn’t need to update it at all?
Although I’ve read that simply launching the EAD (befor trying to run BF2142) and letting it do its ‘thing’ causes no problems.
November 1, 2006 at 7:13 pm #37759RonathonParticipantYay invalid CD key, looks like I’ll have to download and install it again…..

November 2, 2006 at 9:26 am #37762RonathonParticipantDoes that also fix the ‘kicked by PB for duplicate CD key’ ?
Oh and I think it was due to the fact that I tried it Lammies way that this got messed up.
I have my account installed on another PC and that was left to just update to EA Link without touching anything and that works fine….

I got that all last night. Now it states “log in to EA link to verify ownership” however when I run EA link it says check you internet connection fuckin pile o shit!. Ended up playin red alert and battle for middle earth 2 all night
cnuts
November 2, 2006 at 9:49 am #37764RonathonParticipantMate just told me that when he logged into EA Link this morning it updated to a new version from last nights one. Not sure if this will fix anything, will have to wait until I get home tonight.
November 2, 2006 at 9:58 am #37765XDCOldPhartParticipantWHat really fucks me off is that this shit was installed without even a by-your-leave. I turned my PC on, went to get a drinky-poo, came back and it was halfway through the install.
Come the fuck on EA. Crikey, everything they touch fucks up. I will be doing a format & re-install this weekend, and there is every chance I will stick RO on and nothing else untill my sense of humour returns.
BF2142 is fun, 10 % of the time, the rest its plain fooked. FIX IT EA.
November 2, 2006 at 12:43 pm #37766RonathonParticipantThink the EA Link server were all over the shop last night, my mate couldnt log into them either but as long as EA Link was running in the sys tray (connected or not) the game still worked.
Hippy’s EA fix is posted here at EA’s support site:
Search under 2142 with ‘cd key’ as your search reference (the url was too long to display properly)
There’s also a BAT and REG file it says to use first before manualy (if req’d) editing the registery.
I’m a bit simple when it comes to registery stuff and quite scared to edit it, for fear of fecking up my PC. Are those two files likely to be an automated thing to correct the registery entry??
