Just read the first two emperor books by this guy. (Gates of Rome and Death of Kings.)
Set in ye olden Roman times. It follows the life of Gaius Julius Caesar from the time he was a small boy right through all his famous campaigns.
Takes HUGE liberties with historical fact (not always being clear why this should be… but anyway.)
Fact is they are great page turners, very exciting time in history and would be ideal holiday reads.
Anyone who liked Legend would like these books I reckon – lot of similarites in structure…. but better written.

Lol – I was going to make a similar joke but thought I should let sleeping dogs lie you bastard 😀
It is true that he does eventually die I guess…. but since this happened about 2000 years ago that aint too surprising 😀
2nd book ends about the time of the spartacus slave rebellion… still plenty of adventure left before he cops it.

Con Igulden and his brother also wrote ‘The Dangerous Book for Boys’, which feminists complained about. That’s all the reason I need to buy a copy.
October 31, 2007 at 3:37 pm #61464sickofitallParticipantSorry Doc!
My main worry here is that after seeing the film version the book isn’t going to live up to expectations and the classic line:
Infamy!………………October 31, 2007 at 3:44 pm #61465XDCNeonSamuraiParticipantYeah. And I’ll bet Cleopatra’s bra doesn’t ping off either.
October 31, 2007 at 6:09 pm #61466XDCiNSANEParticipantbollocks.. I was gonna watch it until you told me that
October 31, 2007 at 7:07 pm #61467XDCNeonSamuraiParticipant😆 😆 😆

Sums it up, I like Conn Igulden’s stuff, the Atilla Series is better, but not yet complete

I enjoyed it, but it concentrates on the politics more rather than the orgies and bumming 🙁 well, except the Nero episode which is quite an eye-opener.
