I have 4 10gb files that I really need to backup – each is an hour of tape from Uganda last year. Whilst I can back them up on my other internal HD, this is not ideal, as it is brings my C drive down to only having 20gb left… which I believe fucks with performance… and since I am having lots of perfomance issues anyway, and think i need to do ye old reinstall… theres no real point in having it htere.

However, when I try to drag them to my external drive, it says there isnt enough space on it – even though there is over 100gb left.

Anyone know why? or how i can get round this – I would cry lots if I lost it all!

(I have tried to rar the files but it said it would take 2.5 hours… so 10 hours for the lot!

20 gigabytes remaining will certainly NOT fuck with your performance. Having about 20 megabytes left certainly WILL so go for it. Or alternativly create a new partition with your C drive and save them to the partition.
Also if you do save them on C then run a defrag overnight if you are paranoid about performance
