It’s just for TF2, which has been XDC’s biggest mistake in not captialising on. 33 divisions currently exist in the European League 😯

    Ridiculous statement.

Doesn’t stop you admiring how well he plays.

What the, next you’ll be telling me he’s fat? anyhoo I dont see Shrek when he plays, just as I dont see torres as any of the below but a top world class striker 🙂

To me it wasnt a ridiculous statement as thats what I believe, just as I prefer Red Orchestra which has similar gameplay to TF2 but a much harder learning curve which is why many on here dont like it, the gameplay is superb though

    Each to there own

Oddly enough I wasn’t having a go at Rooney, just that him looking like a cartoon character made my point quite neatly. Each to their own indeed, but when people around here say there’s been a lack of games worth playing the last few years on the PC, it’s irritating to see trivial criticisms, such as a games style of graphics, allowed to fester. The truth is that XDC are mostly BF players, and there’s little variation in the style of play between BF games and games such as RO, COD, CSS, RS etc, which makes the learning curve for TF2 a problem for people who’re not as used to weapon types and jumpy twitchy skill sets of games like Quake, UT, TFC, and Jedi Knight (mentioning JK because that’s where I learned to use the rocket launcher of TF2). It’s a shame because the twichiness most of us hate in Quake is much more measured in TF2, the teamplay element is as strong as any game we’ve ever enjoyed, and the competitive side of TF2 is unparalleled because of the games balance. Anyway whether it’s a case of old dogs having a problem with new tricks, an inability to see the games potential, or whatever, it doesn’t matter because that boat has sailed, and lesson has been learned.

As you may have guessed by what I’ve said already, I can’t let this one go…but hey arguments are healthy 🙂 RO and TF2 are miles apart in terms of gameplay! Think of TF2 as quake, except instead of picking up weapons, you choose classes, and the classes add further variation with their own stats and special abilities. The action in TF2 runs at a pace closer to BF2 than quake, but the gameplay is more geared towards pressing an oppponent or pushing back against a relentless assault, in a style not too disimilar to Rugby or American Football. RO is about patience, accuracy, and squad tactics, but the learning curve is not that steep if you’ve played any of BF2/2142, CS, or any rainbow 6 title. Patience is the problem most people have with it.

TF2 how you just described is how RO plays.. attack defend, hold points whilst being agressively attacked etc *sounds like Gold crate mode in BFBC acctually* to me only larger maps and vehicles, yes it helps to play in a squad altough I’d say it was a team game not squad game tbh and I wouldnt agree with RO being a patience type of game, not to me anyhoo, I wouldnt play it if that was the case, I dont have much patience, esspecially run accross a map to get killed type like seen in ARMA/OFP. I do agree it requires accuracy/skill to play it though, I just find it more rewarding to play *not in terms of stats as I’m not bothered about stats*

I wasnt knocking the gfx as in they are shit, its the cartoony/humour side that doesnt appeal to me, I much prefer using weapon based on real stuff if you get me, not a lazer, plasma gun, woopie cushion or a rocket launcher that makes you jump higher if fired at the floor. I’ve just never warmed to them despite the games potential, thats just my opinion

You never seemed to get to grips with the weapons though Max, for example you always played soldier with the shotgun out, ignoring the rocket launcher which is the primary weapon. I don’t know what other game’s you were into prior to bf42 but it must be confusing for a battlefield player see the rocket launcher (and other weapons) for the first time, and that to me is the crux of the problem some XDC have with TF2, and this has nothing to do with cartoon graphics.

I see your point but for me, I do prefer a little realism as well, sorta gets me in the right frame to play it, but each to their own.

I’m going back to the drawing board on this TF2 idea. Matches are brilliant, but it’s proving difficult finding a team who aren’t full of 12 year olds, or flexible with occassional breaks. I just got kicked from a team essentially because I was home over Christmas for 10 days 🙁

Anyway, I’ve seen enough of the other side to know what’s required but I need to sit down and figure out how to make it compatible with XDC, as regular games would be impossible with the level of organisation we currently have.
