Thanks to the very moving video diary excerpt that Justice found I was lead to this little gem:
Troi is an empath, not a telepath though; yes there is a difference!
She can’t read specific thoughts, but can read the emotion attatched to those thoughts (fear, anger, attraction etc.) -_-
Although it’s inaccurate and anyone who ever watched the show for any amount of time would know that (yes, even if they watched it once…), it still is pretty funny!! 😀

The trouble with the Federation is that they’re far too PC and into that whole equal employment rights rubbish. Here’s what happened with Deanna Troi:
Deanna: Hello Captain Picard I’m your new telepath Deanna Troi
Picard: Welcome aboard the Enterprise Councelor Troi. We’re the finest ship in the Federation, with a crew to match
Deanna: I’m pleased to be here captain. Oh look we’re being hailed
Picard: Mr Worf, on screen
Q: Ah Picard. Unless you can tell me which number I’m thinking of I shall destroy your ship
Picard: Oh really Q? Well it just so happens that we have a new telepath onboard. What number is he thinking of Councelor?
Deanna: He’s feeling confident, like he know’s something we don’t.
Picard: Well, heh, of course he is councelor, but which number is he thinking of?
Q: Come along Picard. Hurry up or your ship is doomed!
Deanna: He’s holding something back. I sense malice and… a superiority complex.
Picard: Of course he feels superior. He’s a god-like being. But which number is he thinking of?
Deanna: Well, I’m not really a telepath, I’m an empath. I can sense emotions.
Picard: WTF?
Deanna: Well, I’m like a mentally impaired Betazoid. I’m here to fill in the disability quota on the Enterprise.
Q: Oh dear Picard, looks like I’m going to have to destroy you…
Picard: Those fuckers in federation HR are complete retards. A fucking telepath who can’t read minds. They’ll be sending me a blind engineer next! The twats!
Q: Goodbye Picard. Say hello to eternity for me would you…?
Deanna: I sense he’s going to do something violent.
Picard: Oh shut the fuck up Troi! Wesley. What number do you think he’s thinking of?

I recently bought Series 4 and 5 of Family guy after wetting myself with the first 3.. fukin hillarious!
i have the 1st three fgs on dvd – have added the next lot onto the xmas list 🙂
