As Vincent Von Trapp (An Ancestor of Sir Turks btw!) never once said.

(yehh… wrong film – just wanted to throw a random claim to fame in!)

    Anyone know anything about bikes?

My sis borrowed my bike, and then some shit stole it… and shes claiming the insurance… errr… so im in need of a cheap bike!

Basically ive got 3 months holiday, and just want to use it as a form of exercise to lose some extra flab (I is a big lad you see!)… My planned route (for all you Londoners in the know) is along the tow path from Fullers brewery to Hammersmith bridge, back through Barnes, accross Barnes Bridge, back through Dukes Medow… as many times as I can be bothered to do – I think its 4 miles, and a bloody nice route too.

Ive come accross this in Halfods…

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=170056&categoryId=38308&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=38308&crumb=33980-33957&varient=&CarSelectorCatalogId=&CarSelectorGroupId=#

Is that what a 6’3 17 lad should be after? or should i go for the less fancy:

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=221759&categoryId=38308&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=38308&crumb=33980-33957&varient=&CarSelectorCatalogId=&CarSelectorGroupId=

priced the same, but not £80 off…

Am i right in thinking that at my height, I should be going for the biggest wheels there are?

    Cheers

    yes for big wheels

pluss, I would go for the 2nd one cause there is no rear suspension and at the price of the bike, I dont think these are really and advantage in the end. you need to put a lot more money if you want good back suspension or the problem is that you have to struggle against the said suspension every time you …. push the pedal (???) …well you know what I mean.

simpler is better in that case

    my 2 cents

at this price point walking is better than a full suspension bike , so go with the 2nd one . plus with your size and weight the first one will wallow all over the place .

i have a pretty trick bike but because i mostly ride towpaths and commute to work on it i have solid carbon front forks and a hardtail frame . for the route your gonna ride i would possibly get a bike with a rigid fork .

I recommend a cab for journeys like this, especially with a constitution like yours.

Bike??!! You can bloody walk it mate…I used to do it all the time from Putney along the river via Hammersmith and then Barnes, onwards to Chiswick…then you can pop over the river at Hammersmith, go to The Dove and splash all the cash you’ve saved

    Cheers for the advice guys

The reason I want to cycle it, is that im bored of walking it, and want to get back in to cycling (got hit by a car on a busy road)… It takes about an hour twenty to walk… cycling would take far less time, so would give me incentives to go further and further…
