Hey guys. I am still working on the site for my sisters wedding (which none of you are invited to!), but coming across some issues with M$ Front Page (worst software ever!)… wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Ignoring the slow load – need to reduce the file size of the corkboard…

The invitation card bit is a picture and the text/animation bits are layers added on top. It looks perfect on my home PC, but at work (and presumably on your computers) the buttons are falling off the side. I assume this is to do with different screen resolutions – is that correct? and if so, is there a better way to add the text/animations to the site without them becomigng scewed on different PCs (without using layers!)

Would also like to make the password page a bit more beautiful – perhaps having a text box within a smaller version of a blank invitation card – anyone know how I can do that?

    Cheers

I’m not able to see if fully at work, it’s blocked on one PC and on the other, I don’t have the plugin to view the flash components. It is however mis-aligned. The way I would do it is through CSS. You can set out your layout and specify it in the css then just use standard HTML components to fill out the content.

You are right about the problem, the program you are using creates the templates in a table format with absolute positions, not allowing for variance when re-shaping your browsing window.

As I said, CSS is the best way around this, if you struggle to make your own css/html sheets from scratch, you can just take an html template which usually come with a css stylesheet that you can modify to help.

Not sure if that waffling was much help, but the problem here is using Frontpage which is terrible. Ideally, code in notepad, it’s what real men do. (or download a pirate of dream weaver)

Cheers for the help, will have a look at CSS. Got a “preview” copy of Dreamweaver but have to screw about with the registry or something to get it to work – not my cup of tea!

    LoL – shittest site ever!

The background took my PC about 2 minutes to load! All the buttons were off kilter…. and why does the pinnacle of your animation comprise of a small bird puking when I put my mouse over it? 😆

    Geography degrees? Pah.

Doc, it’s not my fault the internet in the Scotish Isles comprises of a piece of string seperating two yogurt pots… but you are right the file is too big.

And coming from someone who is so uber proud of their prefabricated site – real men start from scratch! (using particularly shit M$ products to add the extra challenge!)

    Douche!

Doc you clearly didn’t see the first XDC site, created from Microsoft Word files saved in HTML format 😆

It was also green for some reason.

    Lol – seriously though.

Put your mouse over his little romantic bird icon on the site…. it pukes its guts out! I was seriously in stitches when I saw it 🙂

Turks. If you tile a repeating image you could get a very similar background to the one you have there but with a lot less downloading required.

    lmao at puking bird…

seriously, create a DIV to hold your post card

then set all the other element using absolute positions. this will fix your problem

all the info you need is here

    Such a fucking Mornon!

After slaving away all day I was ready to upload the new vomiting bird invitation incarnation when I had the awesome idea of clearing up the web space – so I deleted all the files in some folder marked DSC05831204 (or simliar) thinking they were all user created files…

    Now I get this:

    Error 403 – Forbidden
You tried to access a document for which you don’t have privileges.

Anyone know if A) Filezilla saves deleted files (worth checking!) or B) What I would have deleted to bring up a message like this – and how can I readd it? I have already contacted 1and1 support but assume they will be rather slow over the weekend.

I believe the DSC folder is a subdirectory for the webspace as we have two sites on the same account. This is a sub account, so think it could be linked to this folder

But then again, what the fuck do I know! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Hah! I emailed one and one, and they restored all the files… strangely there are no non user created files, so not sure how I fucked it up, but its better now!

Cheers for the offer though! Operation WordPress starts later on this year, so I am sure I will start asking for advice soon!!

WORDPRESS is the way to go mate. I’ve set a website up for some guys with very little time and it’s come out ok:

    http://www.ucg-london.co.uk

so easy to use, plenty of templates to mess around with and very versatile……………………and no puking birds in sight!

Ok… site is basically up and running, but have a few niggles…

The links open up PDF files with information on diversions etc. Some PC’s open the files in the foreground, others in the background… assuming it is therefore a client side issue, but wondering if there is a way I can force the files to open in the foreground?

Too late to recall the other niggles, will try to remember tomorrow!

Got a link to show what you mean?

Oh and wordpress was a great shout from WET btw, it’s the most user friendly solution you’ll find to create a professional looking site.
