Well written autobiography of an oxford graduate of physics (with a diploma in the history of science) who ends up becoming a world class dope smuggler. Various bizzare twists in turns in his life lead to him using numerous aliases, being involved with MI6 and the IRA as well as high level political players in Pakistan and the Phillipines.
Unbelievable life really… no idea how he got away with things like he did for so long.
He ended up serving 7 years in the draconian American penal system. He makes a good comparison in that he was released on the same day as Mike Tyson who had just served 3 years for raping a woman. Yup… thats American justice for ya… gotta love it.
thoroughly enjoyed this book. A very articulate person in writing but have a conversation with the man and you cant understang a frigging word! mind you I was quite hammered 😉
I really enjoyed this when I read it a while back. Well worth a read. Heard him speak at the Cannabis Festival too a few years back.

Met him at Glastonbury festival many years ago when I had access backstage and the like. Theres a few chill outs and bars for the artist and VIP’s and he came and sat down with us. Was a good laugh (well the bits I understood) We joined him later on for a talk on cannabis in the green fields and by then I was pretty hammered and couldnt understand a word he was saying! bloody Welsh! 😛
I read the book also. Possibly the best autobio i have read.
And just to add to the trend i have met him a few times. Kenfig hill (his hometown) is just outside bridgend 😛
^^ Not a lie btw, actually have met and spoke to him a few times. It was in a pub that my mate and i used to go to after visiting our other old school friend that used to deal pot. Go there get stoned pick up, go to the pub get more stoned and have a few drinks, end up pissing our pants most of the night listening to howard tell his stories. Really really nice bloke as it goes. So approcable and will talk to anyone. Considering he spent a shit load of time out of wales he has not lost his accent. Very deap voice and the welsh accent on top must make it hard for anyone thats not a native understand him.
