Hey all, the time has come to get a new pc. My P4 that i bought off pharty a few years back has been a great machine but it’s now too old for modern gaming. It’s even blacking out when i play BF42 which i think has more to do with a component overheating than anything else. But i digress.
I want to get a new pc that will play BF:BC 2 at 1280×1024 (19″ monitor) with all bells’n’whistles turned on. Obviously it will have windows 7 installed but is there any discernible difference between the premium & professional editions ?
I know the system specs haven’t been released yet but i wondered what you guys would suggest. I’m not into upgrading components every year as i don’t play that many games and i also don’t want to go and spend a fortune on a pc as funds won’t allow it.
i’ve had a look at a few sites:
http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk
http://www.wired2fire.co.uk
http://www.meshcomputers.combut would appreciate any others you think may be worth a look.
I have keyboard/mouse/monitor so only need a base unit. Ideally i want xfi sound rather than using on board.
if i think of anything else i’ll post it.
cheers.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/
http://www.aria.co.uk/Why don’t you try and fix your current PC and wait till BFBC2 is actually released. By that time the components you need will have dropped.
Failing that, fix your current PC (I’m sure it’s simple enough) and get an XBOX
November 16, 2009 at 11:36 pm #74701XDC wild egg tamerParticipanti’m going to wait until it’s released or the very least the specs confirmed. I just like to do my homework and get back into what’s what.
as for my current pc, i’m going to open it up and give it a good clean out. Ideally it could do with a clean install but i’m not sure about the drives i have in raid; if i format will they lose the raid config ? The hdd’s are also SATA and i understand on these early mobos the pci hdd had to be installed first then the sata ones afterwards (or summat like that).
November 17, 2009 at 2:27 pm #74702xdc magickerParticipanthow much cash you got to spend? and whats with the 19″ monitor.. thats like tiny!
November 17, 2009 at 3:38 pm #74703XDC wild egg tamerParticipanti didn’t think it would be worth the cost of upgrading the monitor, my 19″ works fine, buying a new one means less cash to spend on the pc.
budget has to top out at around £1000 max.
November 17, 2009 at 10:08 pm #7470411thSignalParticipantNo offence WET but for 1000 squid you can pretty much get the full on I7 rig for that and have enough for a nice samsung monitor
Did a quick price check for a grand you can get a 6gig DDR3 I7 overclocked to 3.4ghz case and everything with a 700w psu ATI 4870 GFX card, with WIN7 HOME ultimate 64bit and a Samsung 22inch monitor, that took me 1 min to look up so if you spend a bit of time your deffo going to get that cheaper..Thats was all from http://www.overclockers.co.uk

November 18, 2009 at 10:44 am #74706XDC wild egg tamerParticipanti’m happy to be told….that’s why i posted the question…………fool! 😆
i’m sure i posted a reply but it doesn’t seem to be here!
Well anyhows, i was asking what the difference would be between the ultimate version of win 7 and the home premium edition ?
I’m also going to wait until the system specs are released and hopefully by then the price of a directX 11 card will have dropped.
November 18, 2009 at 10:53 am #7470711thSignalParticipantWin Ultimate 64 bit is everything and you can connect to a work domain.
Win Home ultimate is the same without the ability to connect to a domain.November 20, 2009 at 7:48 pm #74708xdc magickerParticipantyou only need home premium.. make sure you just get the upgrade or oem if you dont get it bundled as this is all you need
like someone said at that budget you can get everything you could possibly want.. dont skimp on the screen it is the one and only way you can see what you money can buy.
