hiya all, i’ve got an ASUS P4C800-E mobo and currently have 1gb of corsair CMX512-4000pro memory in it, i’m thinking of upping it to 2Gb but am a bit confused about what memory to get, what the whole deal is with dual channel etc. I’ve been on the corsair site and tapped in my mobo info and it tells me i need:-

    Memory Type » DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2)

    http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=2037#other_modules

now, i’m assuming the one i’ve got is PC4000, yet the info on the corsair site tells me i need PC3200!!! am i reading that wrong or is it ok to put a higher rated PC into the mobo but it will just work slower ?

If someone could spec me 2Gb of ram to work well with a P4 cpu i would appreciate it, not looking for anything too pricey…….i’m just looking to give this pc a bit more longevity (am also buying the AGP version of the 1950pro 512Mb gfx card) until such time i can afford to do a decent upgrade.

    cheers all.

    😀

*edit* sorry should of said, i’ve currently got 2x512Mb modules in the pc, there seems to be 2 spare memory slots on the board….would i need to get 2x512Mb or would 1x1Gb suffice ? This whole duel memory thing confuses me……… 😉

    This country sucks!

You should have kept the Camp Wagon hehe

anyhoos what I meant was, instead of buying the AGP card and the mem.. put that a side and towards a better and more upto date rig.. thats what you call saving.. by the time Crisis and COD 4 come out you may just have the reddies to upgrade.. you dont need the extra stuff you want to play BF1942 anyhoos fella! 😀

hehe, i’ve still got the pink cab, its rented out so is helping some way to pay for new one 😉

A new rig would still set me back a fair bit so even to try and save that will take me a year or so, for £130 i can get a new’ish gfx card which will allow me to play BF2/2142 and FH2 (if and when it comes out) maxed out and will give me a year or so of extra use out of the current rig, if i can up my ram for a few quid too then that should do me for some time………….that would also give gfx cards time to improve a bit more, DX10 to get established, vista have its problems ironed out and who knows a new BF game for the pc be announced 😉 well ok the last one may be stretching it a bit but you get my drift. 8)

wet can you stretch to this?

    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/114484

    £64.99

it will work along side your existing 1 gig and 3 gig will make for a canny system for not much more than what you were looking at

otherwise what you linked to will work just as well

can stretch to that, with the gfx card i’m looking around the £200 mark……..should give me another year or so on this pc. My psu is rated at 480w so i’m hoping that doesn’t need updating, i seem to recall the recommendation for the 1950pro AGP is a 400w psu.

    Cheers m8.
