My daughter (leave it!) has departed offski to Uni and I took her up to her accommodation a while ago, she is living in catered uni accommodation. As part of the accommodation, she gets internet access and a telephone supplied by a firm called Masterpoint.
The telephone is a 0870 number so it costs a little bit more to phone into it, so I decides to buy a couple of tesco internet phones, £20 each with a fivers credit (£40). So I installs one this end and goes to install the other on her PC that I have set up in her room, only for it to refuse to log in to her tesco account.
I rings tesco, who basically say its my firewall, but it isnt its Masterpoints firewall, so I ring Masterpoint and ask them if they could unblock Port 4569, after some discussion on the other end, they come back with the answer that they are ‘unwilling’ to unblock this port as they provide Internet Access for educational purposes only and do not support VOIP. What they really meant to say was if we let you use your VOIP stuff, then you wont use our expensive provided phones, TWATS!
Now I could use Teamspeak or something else, but I have purchased these phones and they have a fiver credit on them too, I want to use them, what should I do? I think the only option is for me and Badger to go around the head office with some of the boys…….Advice anyone?
