ParticipantIf it was my pc selling to a mate, I’d say around £350-£400. It’s likely worth around £450-£500 imo.

ParticipantHoly shit… ok. Was thinking around the £250 mark with monitor! Glad I checked.
If only my mate wasn’t so bloody poor!

KeymasterI’d knock a hundred off that price just as an apology for selling him vista.

ParticipantAnother quick question – It has windows 7 on it, but also full of my crap – so obviously want to format prior to selling. If I format through windows, will the operating system remain on it, or will it be formatted too?
Cheers

KeymasterDepends on how you reformat it. Do you have the win 7 cd or a recovery drive with tools to reinstall it? You can reformat during the windows installation process. If you straight reformat, you’ll lose everythung on the disk, including windows.

ParticipantYeah what matt says.
Backup your shite.
Insert windows disk… reboot comp.
Will load up the windows install disk (if you have set your boot disc right) choose option of clean install / full install.
Job done.
This is pretty safe. But if you have any really dangerous data on your HD that must never be found then you would be best to reformat the whole disc with 0s and 1s before doing the windows install – I think data recovery guys could still find a load of stuff on your machine even after a windows install (yes i do mean naked pics of your sister).

ParticipantArse – I have a download version… although I do have vista on disk so could probs format on to that, and then redownload the downloaded windows 7.
In terms of selling this PC… although windows 8 is shite, do you think it would sell better with 7 or 8? I can get either for free.
Cheers

KeymasterI don’t know but if you can get win 8 for free, and it’s licensed correctly, then you might have more success through it being the more recent system. I’ve not really heard anything that would suggest it’s actually shite, it’s more of a case that it has new features which are totally irrelevant to me, and I see no need to spend extortionate amounts of money in a needless upgrade from win 7. If it’s free then you don’t have that concern.

ParticipantNot sure it is a legal sale, but i can download for free as am a filthy stinking student!
