ParticipantI didn’t do so badly in BF2, but I seem to be struggling in 2142 when it comes to the guns. The moment I get into a shoot out these days I seem to go down after 1 or 2 short bursts from an AR or LMG, whereas I’m still blasting away at my agressor.
Traditionally I aim for the base of the ribcage and then fire a couple of bursts at the target which would ripple up their chest and into their face, but for some reason this tactic ain’t working. So what’s the best method? Aim for the head? Hold down the trigger until the target drops?
I also seem to be engaging most adversaries at medium to long range, rather than close up like in BF2, which makes things harder.
BTW I play on a 17″ CRT screen at a 1024 x 768 resolution. Should I get a bigger monitior and bump up the res?
Advice would be appreciated.
Yours

Participantyeah, really ,it’s only max that can bring me down with only 1/2 a shot, he only needs the briefest glimpse of me and i’m dead. 👿
and a 17″ CRT??….christ on a bike man, bring yourself up to date with a 19″ LCD, they’re peanuts these days

ParticipantNeon your main problem is I believe, and one I certainly encountered during ‘closed testing’ is you need to adapt your play style compared to BF2. Certain weapons have quite significant deviation so to gain the most accuracy you need to go prone and aim as much as you can for the red diamond that appears above aforementioned combatant. This is the prime hit bot that inflicts the most damage whilst it is still possible to kill an infidel but hitting other areas of the body is does not cause the same degree of damage.
For the assault class weapons, they become more accurate during longer bursts which reduces deviation so a re more accurate and mid to long range but are not so good at closer ranges. Close range weapons , pistol, shotgun and the good old blade of justice should be you prefered method of inflict maxium damage.
Whilst there are a lot of fimilarites with 2142 and it is unmistakably Battlefield this one requires a little more practice and a change of playing style which can sometime be quite a steep learning curve.

What does this mean? What red diamond? Am I missing something major? 😕

ParticipantI initially found the weapons to be a right pain in the ass to start with. Couldn’t hit the proverbial barn door (hell couldn’t even hit the farm it was on!) But recently having listened to Max a bit about the Voss, it owns. Single shot fire is so deadly at long range. Short burst fire of 1-2 secs at close range seems to work quite well too. By far one of the best things about this game is that all the classes have weapons which can do a bit of damage in the right hands. Still can’t quite work out the best way to use the carbine though? Any ideas? Seems very weak.
Also, what’s this about he diamond thingame??

ParticipantI pretty much use the carbine all the time and all I can say is that at long range don’t even bother, medium range go to single shot only and short range strangley enough I find head or feet/lower legs(weird I know) seems to work best anywhere else don’t even try.
If I had the choice again I wouldn’t bother and I would have gone for the Voss hope this helps
The Red Diamond is an unlock which I think is on the Recon side and to do with the Net Bat it allows the enemy seen by your teammates to show up as Red Diamonds when your playing.

ParticipantSingle shot mode is your friend at medium to long range. Whilst the enemy sprays and prays, 2-3 well placed rounds drop him 8)
This isn’t an option on the engy gun, but it supposed to be a close defense weapon anyway – aim for central torso and let rip 😈
Oh and Voss = noob weapon 😛
I have it unlocked but don’t use it – a) because when it fires it sounds like and elastic band twanged against a tub lid – and – b) for some reason I can’t hit jack with it 😥

If your squad leader has a UAV drone deployed you should see the diamonds.

ParticipantOh, those diamonds. Doh!
I picked up a Voss once and it kicked ass. Stronger than the Lambert Carbine and I found it suited me well. At the moment, I’m working up to unlock that and then I’ll prolly play assault for a while. I’mnot really a sniper (I think I have one sniper-rifle kill 😳 ).

When you line up a target you will see a red diamond outline above them. This is the primary Hit box and inflicts the most damage. If you are engaging from distance, right click to go to scope/zoomed view and the red diamond will appear just below the playername and health metre.

ParticipantThanks for the advice there guys, particularly Lammie’s. I didn’t realise that the diamond meant optimum damage. I’ll give it a go tonight and see how I get on.

Participantnot on me you wont! 8)
try it on MAX 😉
Funny. But in BF2 I hated sniper class. Now I love poking around getting head shots 😈 still dont think Ive ever killed anyone on full health with one shot tho. Will try the diamond next time 😉November 21, 2006 at 4:44 pm #39852XDCErratic-Space
ParticipantYeah know what you mean about the sniper rifle. I still haven’t got the pin for 6 headshots 🙁 I keep shooting people in their toe. They might live to tell the tale but they’ll be hobbling while they do it.
