I am running the 32 version without any major problems for gaming only, if I had the choice I would dump it like yesterday (because it is Microsoft Windows)

I don’t see the point of Vista yet, untill all games go DX10 (and show significant improvements over DX9) and Micro$oft don’t have a gun to your head then stick with XP imo.

2 ‘gamer’ mates of mine have been there and gone back to XP

Go for 64 mate, been using this for around 9 months now and apart from BF2142(which was ropey on xp anyway) I haven’t had a problem with anythng anymore. Gotta agree though that XP ran my games faster than vista does.

And about to get faster when SP3 is released…

I’m still waiting for the killer reason to switch to Vista – ie ‘this game will only run on vista’ or something like that. Why not do a dual boot machine?

Phart upgraded 3 times to Vista Ultimate.

The Vista Ultimate box now makes for a pretty book-stand, while Phart is happily back on XP.

Vist is shit. See this, explains it all “The Crome has worn off the Turd”

i have vista ultimate 64 on my main work machine and vista exterprice 32 on a table / laptop

it both cases its sucks ass

    here are my finding:

    1) the laptop is a high spec little beauty but with vista on it it goes slow as fuck – i put in another gig (2 in total) and at least it became usable but this little baby would fly with XP on it.

    2) he dialog boxes are so cluncky – i cant find anything – opening and saving files takes ages as i can never find the drives i want quick enough

    3) the desktop had SD card probs – lots of them

    4) the desktop (core2 6600 with 4 gig of ram) is very stable and for office type things (office / creative suite etc) it have not let me down.. except

    5) there is a bug that means if you are working off flash drives and open a doc in word – word will crash after about 15 mins – it will DELETE the file you were working on – i mean WTF?

    6) when using XP 64 on the same machine i used to get lots of problems with programs refusing to install becuase it was x64 .. i dont seem to have this problem with vista x64 – most programs run fin

    7) the laptop refuses to play games – even very old ones ie unreal tournament which runs on ANYTHING! portal crashes as well – i think this is a driver issue with the shitty intel gfx chip

    think that is it!

if you want to use 4 gig of ram you have no option – it has to be x64 version of something.

i wish (real) games would run on linux! and adobe aps!

Well I have given up installing Vista for some of the reasons you mention there.

Also this new XP service pack looks good.

Also I ran into a load of problems trying to install the os and messed up my bios settings somehow degrading my gfx card settings lol.

So I am going to stick with XP for now

Well…. I have Vista 32bit on my home machine.. and i havent had any issues with it.
    spec is..
    2.5gb ram
    Athlon x2 4200+
    8800gt

It runs fine, im now used to the menus and how theyve hidden loads of stuff away.
As i said im generally happy with the setup.
    I get decent framerates in COD4, in the region of 60fps @ 1680 X 1050

The only issue with my whole machine is the damn 8800gt’s lound fan.
