http://www.stunts-gone-wrong.com
Not that many videos on it yet, but just looking for feedback on colour scheme, layout, ease of use etc.

Cheers

April 14, 2010 at 7:50 pm #76139xdc the docParticipantIt’s good mate – but I agree with Magicker (who has posted on the wrong thread) about bringing the width of the video banner down.
Also – some terrible spelling and grammer – I don’t meant to be an internet pedant – pointing out mistakes on forums is very cock like (Wolf does it all the time for example) 😈 but on a web site it really stands out.
For example privacy policy is spelt wrong.

has several mistakes i.e. you’re when it should be your, weird space in one of the links etc.
Well done anyway – is it your first site?

This isn’t my first website, most of my previous websites have been static HTML and are not the most attractive. They are mostly set up for google adsense income/affiliate marketing micro niche crap. This is my 2nd wordpress blog.
My first was trying wordpress with the microniche affiliate thing. It’s ok, but I’m not that comfortable with Java scripting to get the carousel working.

The stunts gone wrong website I made for my own amusement.
The spelling of privacy seems to be a mental block with me. Now that I check, all my site have it spelled wrongly. Spelling and grammer used to be my thing but I dont’ do all that much writing these days. I’ve corrected the spelling errors on the site.
Magikar, is that chrome you are using? I have tested this site in various browsers. It flat out doesn’t work in IE6, IE7 looks a little wierd (similar to chrome). Looks perfect in Opera, Safari, firefox and IE8. This is more down to the theme designer than myself, guess his CSS is crappy and I lack the skills to correct it. I’ve already spent hours getting it as good as it is on those Firefox, IE7/8, firefox and opera. I’m not sure what else I can change to make it work in chrome 🙁
I’m looking to launch another 10 microniche sites soon, bump up my side income etc.
Thanks again for feedback, I’m just kind of learning as I go.
April 15, 2010 at 4:24 pm #76141xdc magickerParticipantlove the self help site
and yes i always use chrome these days.. will take a look in the other browsers and see what the difference is
April 15, 2010 at 4:43 pm #76142XDCiNSANEParticipantChrome any good these days??
April 15, 2010 at 7:18 pm #76143xdc the docParticipantWhat is this microniche stuff you are talking about? You making any real money?
If you have any questions re wordpress… Magicker is the man – he knows everything about it! (Well – except why overflow boxes don’t work on my site… but apart from that.. everything! 😀 )
April 15, 2010 at 10:30 pm #76144xdc magickerParticipantchrome is awsome
it got to the point that everytime i opened firefox it wanted to updates something.. drove me nuts.. never get nagged in chrome
also as i use a lot of google apps / docs etc chrome has a very fast javascript engine.. and now comes with extensions.
April 16, 2010 at 8:49 am #76145bmstalkerParticipantMicro Niche stuff comes in a couple of forms.
The idea is to have lots of sites, making a little bit of money each day.
I read a post on a forum along the lines of some guy who managed to make a site, and got enough visitors and a high enough click through rate on his google ads to make $3 a day.
Essentially he chose a very specific niche in google,, 4 slice toasters for example (a key word which he researched and ensured it got at least 8K searches a month), bought the domain 4slicetoasters.com and then optimized his page around those key words. The idea being that if anyone search for that in google, his site would appear first.
He then duplicated this site, with different keywords 300 times. Making estimated $27K a month.
Sounds like a tall tale when I tell it here, but the forum post I read was a work in progress. When he first set up the post, he had 20 sites and was making about $180 a month or so.
I’m not doing all that well. I started up thinking so long as I don’t lose money, I’m ok. I can do the websites at work, so in essence, It’s not even costing me time, I’m gonna be at work anyway.
I’ve got only really 3 sites that make me money, and in 3 months, I’ve pulled in only £19.
Not great, but I’m working on the principle of invest a certain ammount (in my case £20 for domain names) and when I make that money back, I will invest more, hopefully make the money back quicker and it shoudl spiral up.
That’s the plan, so far my sites are in profit, I just need to make 1000 of them.
I can’t link to the post atm, at work, dodgy blackhat forum etc but if you guys would like links, I’ll link it up later.
April 16, 2010 at 9:38 am #76146xdc magickerParticipantit was a lot easier in the good old days when the web 1st started. I used to make about £120 a month selling books on behalf of amazon with my local history site and my RE teacher support site. Back then amazon was a mystery and people wanted to buy books. now people go to amazon direct and no one clicks on any links.
i use my tech blog a bit like this and have add on there.. every time i have to look up an answer to a question i cant crack i document it and stick it on the blog. normally these are niche enough that other people are looking for them 2 and the traffic is good. the problem is these are mostly geek audience which are notorious for not clicking on ads… ungreatful bastards.. would it kill them just to click once to show their appreciation! having said that.. i also never click on ads!
like you say.. it is all pennies but it does add up over enough sites to make it worth while.
oh bmstalker.. you probably have your own server but if you ever need some friendly hosting.. just shout 🙂
April 16, 2010 at 10:18 am #76147bmstalkerParticipantLol,
Thanks mate, It’s all done on free hosting atm. As soon as I’m making consitant money, I’m prob gonna set up a reseller account and set up a web-hosting company on the side too 🙂
I try to avoid tech savy groups, I don’t click on ads either tbh. The self help books one show’s the kind of audience I’m after, people who need help 🙂 more click happy. Also people looking to buy are more click happy, so generally product review sites perform better click wise.
Also found an interesting affiliate site, easy content units, in which you can make a large price comparrison table from different retailers for the same item. Then style it the way you want, and it automatically uses the appropriate affiliate codes for each link. I usually have these on my static sites, which is what I’m probably gonna stick with.
Just need to set up some link wheels for google dominance and get cracking
