hi all, i’m just wondering that seeing as my OS is installed on my 356gb SSD should I try and install any other software on the 1Tb HDD I have? For example i’m in the process of downloading origin which is only small in size (about 17Mb) but if I install that to the SDD and then populate it with games will they also install on the SSD or should I do it the other way, install origin on the HDD but any games I want quicker loading times with then install them on the SSD????

Also, progs like avast, fraps, photoshop should they go on the SSD or HDD??

I’m totally noob to all this guys so help me out here 😉

    cheers

You have a big ssd there so not too much to worry about – but this is what I do.

Straight away set up a hierarchy of folders on your HDD for installing stuff. Do it now and keep to the system… you dont want stuff getting lost over the drives.

I set up folders like games.. downloads.. drivers… docs.. videos… etc etc. From now on whenever you download a prog or driver or whatever make sure you change the path to go into these files… not the default SSD. Also put steam and origin on here.

On the SSD I have windows, premiere, photoshop… all that stuff that needs lots of speed and uses big files.

Games i keep on the HDD…. except for a choice few. Most games you wont miss the SSD – but things like battlefield you do want on there if possible because it can aid map loading times. Basically i would put BF / WOT / games you know you will play a lot of multiplayer on.

A lot of this is because SSDs space was at a premium and it is hard to move down the line… but with an SSD that size to be honest you don’t need to be too careful.

cheers doc, so from origin even though I install the “base” prog on the HDD I still get the option of installing any games where I want?

Sorry doc, one other thing. You say you create a list of folders to install progs, docs etc. Is that all within the program files folder on the HDD or is that not needed.

As an example: i’m about to install origin so I create a folder called gaming hubs in which I want to install origin, steam etc. will that “gaming hubs” folder go in program files or direct on the HDD? Also when I install a game on my SSd do I then create a games folder on the SSD directly or within program files?

sorry for noob questions but I never got the hang of folders before so want to get housekeeping right this time.

Yeah m8 – you can assign the default storage drive in origin settings.

TBH – this was really only an issue for me with steam as I have loads of steam games – most of which don’t need the SSD.

Thinking about it now I would be happy having origin on my SSD as I am unlikely to have many games installed through it…. but not steam!

    Cheers.

so just install origin on the SSD within program files or create any folder I choose? (see question above 😉 )

now i’m more confused. Just looked on the ‘C’ drive and there is two program files folders; a normal one and a x86 one……………..HELP!!!!

I’ve been away from PC’s too long 🙁

Once you install steam you’ll have this dilemma wet. Origin is for bf and that’s all. EA are rip off merchants, so don’t fall for their sales patter. Bf3 is awesome, bf4 looks like bf3 and will also be awesome, but by buying it we shall be propagating a route to a slightly different textured but very similar in style game called bf5. Until ea shake their money focused image, steam is where you’ll find the best deals and the best games (other than bf). I have a 250 gb ssd on which I have windows and the 5 or 6 games I play most often. I uninstall and reinstall accordingly.
