“DUBAI – Somali pirates have captured a fully laden Saudi supertanker far off east Africa, seizing the biggest vessel ever hijacked with a cargo of oil worth over US$100 million (NZ$180m) in an attack that pushed world crude prices higher.
The US Fifth Fleet said the Sirius Star was being taken to the pirate haven of Eyl, in northern Somalia, on Monday.
The hijacking of the Saudi Aramco-owned vessel on Sunday is certain to add to pressure for concerted international action to tackle the growing threat posed by pirates from anarchic Somalia to one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.

“This is unprecedented. It’s the largest ship that we’ve seen pirated,” said Lieutenant Nathan Christensen, a spokesman for the Fifth Fleet.

“It’s three times the size of an aircraft carrier.

The Sirius Star held as much as two million barrels of oil – more than one quarter of Saudi Arabia’s daily exports. The hijacking helped lift global oil prices over $1 to more than $58 a barrel, although they later lost some gains.

The International Maritime Bureau, a piracy watchdog, said there had been 92 attacks off Somalia this year and 36 of the ships had been hijacked. Fourteen ships are still controlled by pirates and 243 crew members are being held.”

Say wut? am I missing something here? How the fuck do you “hijack” a ship 3 times the size of an aircraft carrier, hide it and then successfully ransom it….thats amazing. They must have nads of concrete.

I just can’t comprehend why this hasn’t been stamped on, surely it can’t be that hard? Couple of warships and a few warning shots, few sinkings and game over…surely? Just as my petrol bill had come down too *sigh*

how they get onboard? “stop now and lower your ladder or we will do nothing cos you are so huge!” or “stop now and lower your crane so we can be hoisted up” or “stop now or we will sink you with our .50 cal gun which will bounce off your 3 inch triple skinned hull” seriously, wtf?

I blame Geldof, never should have fed them….. I bet he really thought they’d be happily tilling the soil and dancing in the corn plantations farming away whistling Boomtown Rats tunes…..

Then again I suppose if you sing “Tell me why I don’t like Mondays” in Somalia, Monday takes offence, picks up an AK and shoots your family.

    lol

i was at a conference last year and sir Bob was doing a session. he ranted about poverty in africa as he does and made some fine stabs at the heart strings. he then turned to two guests in the croud.. the mayer and mayeress of Mamalodi. they stood up to say a few words… it looked like the whole front row moved as the two biggest, fattest bastards you have ever seen stood up. they were huge!!! and suddenly it became very obvious where all the food in africa had gone. they had the nerve for the next 10 mins to make us all feel guilty that no one had any food back home!! well i could think of two obvious sources of nourishment which would keep a while village going for a month!

and speaking of mamalodi.. this particular conference every year raised a small fortune for the place.. they must have more computers per head than any western nation.. where the hell the find the power to run all these things is the big mystery

    lol Magicker,

    I can imagine the letter,

    Dear Mr Bob,

I am Manguille Mamootoo Mayor of Mamalodi, my cousin is lawya and he say he has 50,000,000 American Dollar cheque for you. This has been left by a friend of your father a Mr Joseph Liveaid Akinboyabo, he fell on good fortune and his dying wish was to repay your father. All you have to do to honour his wish and claim the inheritance is have big massive concert in his honor and send us a bag of rice and a computer for each dollar…this was his final will. You must do this or Mamalodi will perish.

Some day we would like to holiday in the wonderful nation of united kingdom and meet you in the great city of Guildford.

    Thank you Mr Bob…

P.S that Peaches girl…reel her in man.

I remember Mamelodi. Shot several “protesters” there during the rampage of the early 90’s. The worst experience of my army career was sorting out the “Townships”. Take COIN and Conventional shit any day. Hunting for “Kombersmannetjies” in fucking Pola Park, Mamelodi, Alexandra etc was not even remotely funny. Think its the closest you could come to the Brit experience in Northern Ireleand during the troubles outside of that particular cluster-fuck.

Funny though how there is always a fat cunt at the end of the food chain in Africa.
