Participantbeen on a few times but no one is ever about!! Is anyone else playing this mod ?
I’ve had a go this morning on the battle of Sfakia map and i think its probably one of the best maps so far but i think we have the ticket count way too low on it, its on 50 and it counts down way too fast, with so many flags on that map and the chance to have some good close quarter action going on, its eems a shame for it to end as quick as it does……….any chance of upping the ticket count a little ?
Oh, and its spelt “forgotten” not “forgotton” 😉

Participanthate to be a killjoy to our own server but shouldnt we focus more on filling up the 7dr one? after all Gonzo has been generous enough to be putting our names into the reserved slot and it is a 64 player. Why dont we use ours for something daft like Unreal Tournament or something nostalgic 😉

Participantthe problem i have with 64 player servers is that i lag way too bad……….i’ve tried shutting down background apps but its still way too laggy for me………….got 3gb of ram too 🙁

Participanti dont like stating the obvious, but have you checked the ingame network settings are on cable/dsl and not LAN ?

Participantno probs gonzo.yup all checked and ok. Bringing up the task manager i see a prog called searchindexer.exe running which seems to use a fair bit of resource, i try to shut it down but it just reappears, done a google and it seems its used for quicker indexing of files etc. I’ve closed it down using “end process tree” and that stops it restarting but does cause probs on starting up the pc after having switched it off.
Also i had firefox running in the background which also seems to use a fair bit of resources so i’ve closed that down when gaming and shall see how i get on.😀

Participantsorry mate, wasn’t clear what i mean’t………
i assume you mean’t for me to download the proggie called “startuplist” from that link you posted, then once i’ve run it i save the txt file and it has listed everything that running……….
here’s the txt file
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~acabbie/misc/startuplist.txt

Participantyeh hijack this, sorry m8 forgot to mention the app 🙄
as for searchindex’
Step 1) Disable SearchIndexer
– Click Start
– Click Control Panel
– Click System and Maintenance
– Click Administrative Tools
– Double-click services
– Right-click “Windows Search” and click Properties
– Click the Stop button
– Click the Startup type dropdown box, and click Disabled
– Click OKStep 2) Change search options
– Go to any explorer window
– Click the down arrow next to the magnifying glass in the search box
– Click Search Options
– Put a check next to “Always search the filesystem even for indexed
locations”you can remove these from hijack this as well to save resource, it wont stop anything working.

Participantnice 1, when i open an explorer window i have the search button but no arrow next to it………i’ve tried going through the search companion, change preferences but they only really offers to activate “with indexing service” which is what i assume i just switched off.
As for the other stuff, java is a thing i don’t fully understand, it seems to update itself quite regularly but doesn’t seem to remove previous versions thus when i go into add/remove proggies there always seems to be 6 or so different versions of java……i assume i can safely delete all but the latest version with no consequence ?
I don’t have a remote for creative so thats fine to remove and the last one i’ll do it now.
Cheers m8….
just thought of something, i bought myself an external hdd last week, connected it to my pc and it says that my USB are only type 1 not type 2, mentions summat about installing a hi-speed USB host controller to get the full benefit…..any ideas if that can be done ?
December 26, 2007 at 5:28 pm #63699GoNz0
Participantu need to find out if your motherboard has any usb2 ports on it, if not buy a cheap usb2 card for about a tenner.
you can delete the java from add remove, at worst your going to have to install the latest one again, and i dare say you already have the cab file stashed somewere in the temp files for a fast reload.
im not sure about other search options, maybe its worth googling the search name like i did and seeing what others have done as i only did a quick search for you.
you can also dump any java update files you see in hijack this, you will have to manually update tho, no biggie tho.

Participantcheers mate, will do……..pretty sure mobo is USB2 but will check it when i have vanquished this damn man flu………no big deal if it ain’t as i don’t really need usb2 for anything important that i can’t do with my lappie.
