Should we change our server to conquest only? I would certainly have no problem with that.

Good info Hippo – actually sounds like a really useful unlock. But honestly, how the hell is your typical player going to know this? AFAIK it ain’t in the manual, and I assume not in the online training/nagging either otherwise people would have commented on it.

And are there any oher undocumented ways of using weapons properly?

    I need all the help I can get….. 😉

Yeah, its a really good feature of the tanks – love it.

I wish the hover tank was not quite so wank, however. It’s rally hard to steer and line up those distant shots. The Tiger, however, is brilliant. Looks the part too.

If it’s Belkin kit, that is normally set to:

    http://192.168.2.1

    Try that.

BTW, if you have never used this before, it means your router & connection are wide open to the world. The first thing you should do is at least set a password on the administration section of the router.

Sorry Lammie – everyone knows its not your fault, and many thanks for passing the info on.

Just for everyones intererest, it is actually very rare that a game’s maintainance team is the same as the developers. There’s a number of reasons. Firstly, developers don’t like to think of themselves as support guys. Secondly, when a title is finished a team normally breaks up or moves on.

This is not just true of the gaming world – software in general is very like this. It’s just that game titles often exagerate the effects because a team breaks up or moves on after a release. Software that is a distinct phased release product, however, normally has a fairly static team and so fixes (if done by a suport group) can get more easily rolled back into the next release of the product proper. Since each of the BF series is effectively a separate product, this feedback process is normally missing. I.e. a bug in BF1942 will probably not be relevent to the BFV codebase.

I worked for EA up until quite recently, and was in the position where I had a lot of contact with all the various studios around the world. Almost without fail, games teams did not have a “support section” – pretty much an alien concept to them. So any post-release work (if any) was done by a separate group.

However, I should qualify this by saying that most of my contact was with the teams doing console games, and so I did not get to spend much time with a large PC-based title. And, of course, DICE up until a month or two ago were a separate company anyway.

The company I worked for was acquired by EA a few years ago in part due to its excellent support systems, people, and philosophy. However, within a year this side of our business had been almost completely shut down by EA. That should tell you something about EA’s attitude to things…..

I may be wrong in this next bit, but I believe EA Warrington were involved in BF support, even though the game was mostly developed in Sweden. The news from DICE that they are putting a dedicated support team together in Sweden may be related to the fact that EA very recently annouced the closure of the Warrington office……

    Thanks Lammie.

But the following paragraph made me smile:

The patches will also be thoroughly tested in closed beta tests before being released.

Will this be as “thorough” as the 1.0 release? 😛

Just had a quick look and it is currently:

    Belgrade – Conquest
    Minsk – Titan
    Camp Gibralter – Conq
    Shuhia Taiba – Titan
    Cerbere Landing – Conq
    Sidi Power Plant – Titan
    Fall of Berlin – Conq
    Suez – Titan
    Tunis – Conq
    Verdun – Titan

Each map is played twice before moving to next one.

Tanks are bloody slow, though, in 42. I think one of the reasons DC was so popular was that the tanks were much faster. Meant you spend much less time just trundling around the battlefield.

Voted both. But not bothered about RTR or SW – haven’t got the latter anyway.

Now I need to go off and find all the installers & patches….

I reckon what’s left of the old Multiplayer crowd would probably come along to this too.

    Oh great find!

I think I may even reinstall it and see if there are any old servers still hanging around.
