I thought we were going for a curry to celebrate tonight? Although a birthday on Friday the 13th does not bode well…

    LOL @ sPUNKers movie.

    Here’s what I thinks of BF2142:

The setting (although a reasonable backstory) ain’t great. Typical grittyish future, with alien-esque guns and armour, with an orangey glow to the sky. Having said that the other maps shown in the demo look like they might be a bit more interesting and varied.

The gameplay seems very much like something ported from a console, and that includes the ‘commander junior’ battlefield view which I didn’t like. The programmers seem to have tried hard the balance the game though and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone, but I find it a bit stilted. Here’s the anaolgy I would use:

When I was a kid going to the play ground and playing on the swings and slides was exciting. 20 foot high slides, see saws that’d take your arm off and that bizarre steel shuttlecock that was basically a massive deathrap designed solely for the purposes of killing children (as far as I can remember anyway).

But these days the slides are about 6 foot high and surrounded by rubber matting, they’ve got stupid minature horses on springs and the shuttlecock of death has been replaced by swings so lame that you can’t seriously hurt yourself when you’re really trying to. In short even the most stupid of children are quite safe.

Same with BF2142. It seems to have been made to suit even the most unskilled player by trying to balance things too much. The guns seem woefully ineffective, requiring lots of hits to get a kill.

I’ll still buy it and play it, but it’s a bit too much like something you’d get on the XBox for my taste.

Nice one Deicist. That’s what i get for not keeping my Direct X up to date. I guess I might as well update my video drivers too whilst I’m at it.

    Cheers

    Curse you Wipers you tease!

Although is it worth getting the demo to work, or just bite the bullet and buy the game?

    😯 .. just read this… you ARE joking … right? 😯

Yeah. I tend to go a bit ‘black and white’ on issues like these, but rape is a very complicated thing. Rape is (in the most basic sense) unwanted penetrative sex, which is something that we normally associate with a masked guy attacking women in alleys. Using any means to have sex with a women against her will is rape, regardless of if she fights back or not. And that’s the way it should be.

I think the average rape conviction rate in the UK is currently 5 or 6%. Very low, but that’s because most of the time it’s a case of her word against his, and our law courts used to be based around that fact that you were innocent until proven guilty. But rather than spending more money on forensics, community support, psychiactric evaluation, county wide specialist rape units and more policemen/women, the government just changes the law. Now it’s up to a man accused of rape to prove that he’s guilty. Hell, why not extend that to all crimes?

They could catch a lot more ‘terrorists’ if they had to prove their innocence, rather than us proving their guilt. Of course that would mean a lot more innocent people would end up in prison…

Davis was released on conditional bail until 13 November to allow pre-sentence and psychiatric reports to be prepared.

I love this. If a man rapes a woman then that’s because he’s a man and men are rapists. It’s part of our psyche. The norm if you like.

But if a woman falsely accuses a man of raping her then there’s probably something not right in her head, so she needs a psychiatric evaluation.

Anybody else see the double standard?

    Woman lying = insanity

    Men raping = normalcy

Therefore it is more likely that any of us here would rape a woman than it would be for her to make up a story like that, because it would mean she was crazy.

Well, I tried to Install BF2142 3 times after downloading it from EA and it wouldn’t play. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch.

I’ve got better things to do than get a demo to work.

I gives it a thumbs down thus far.

But unlike you whiners here I’ve actually done something about it and programmed my own video game (sort of) which takes the good aspects of each game and combines them to create an exciting and above all realistic combat simulation.

    Battle Attack Commandoes Screen Shots

If it’s supposed to be realistic how come the cowboys are using yellow tracers then? It should be purple and you know it. Come on Neon, sort it out.

Those screen shots were from the Beta version, so in the release copy the colours of the laser guns will be more accurate, making you actually believe that you are in a genuine cowboys versus zulus battle from the 1950’s.

Insane and Max, we are taking pre-orders for the agame and as I know you I’ll let you have it for a £10 each (non-refundable). We also reserve the right for the game you order to not actually be a game, and just some dodgy bitmap that I’ve turned into a GIF so that the screen moves.

The GF and I are just over half way through season 2. It is indeed an awesome series.

I personally like the way that it does what all good sci fi should, and that’s use fantasy to create situations which are worth exploring. Like the situation that they’re in; 49,000 humans left alive and under threat by an aggressive force. Who should be in command, the civilian government or the military?

Great show. Thank god Boxey only had a walk-on role in the mini-series.
