Lol you cynical bastards.
You have a lot of faith in big corporate entities it seems.
If you look at kickstarter projects a lot of them are for indie films. You don’t need to know much about making movies to realise that it is incredibly expensive and that all the main studios are incredibly conservative.
I would much rather sink some cash into a young guys dream of making a movie if he has the spunk to organise enough people to support him / come up with a plan and then get momentum going amongst people who would like to see the kind of stuff that he might produce rather than send it to
to be wasted. As for games… you can’t really lose… the developer is saying… pay us up front so we can actually make the game…. you will get a copy for your $25 investment which is what it would cost anyway – so take a gamble. I think you will find that most of the people on kickstarter have actually sunk all of the money they have got and then some into whatever their dream is by the way – that is an outrageous statement you made there ben with no proof to back it up.
i just feel that investing in a company and getting a “free” copy is a complete copout. if i am investing in a product why should i not be asking for returns on that investment? without getting into the various pitfalls of capitalism too much 🙂
i gladly pay for a game while it is in alpha/beta ala minecraft. it proves that the person(s) who are making it are serious and not some fly by night ex developer star that is seeking glory again but aint putting his money where his mouth is. i bought a game called frozen synapse while it was still in alpha, i paid for a product and i got it, rather than giving money to someone in the hope that the product they make will be good just because i have my rose tinted nostalgia goggles on.
and that is unfortunately what most of these kickstarter programs are, they are remaking old games and it plays on peoples nostalgia who say “yeah that was an awesome game…..15years ago”.games needn’t cost the world to make, sure if you are after the next great AAA title selling millions of copies and have a schedule of 18 months to do it then it costs. but we are talking about predominantly indie games for PC which was being done 25 years ago by people in their bedrooms, so what has changed in that time for these people to be demanding cash before they even start work?
just my additional 10cents

Participantim still not entirely certain about the whole kickstarter stuff. it feels like getting people to invest in a program and not get anything in return. i can understand from the perspective that some projects dont get funded by major publishers but there is usually a good reason for this. secondly, lots of the studios dont seem to put their money where their mouth is. some do but very few.
maybe im just a miserable cynical (cheap) sod but i cant see myself giving any of these people money.

Participantif anyone has been thinking of getting a decent sized SSD then now is probably the time. the price has fallen big time recently. i paid £80 for my 40gb one 18 months ago (just to use as an OS drive) with the prices as they are atm its a great time to buy a good sized one

Participantits only really of a bonus to those people who havent already hit 50 and have access to all the base weapons and gear through ranks. other wise it doesnt actually provide any real bonus as all of the other unlocks are based on number of kills

Participantgot the come 5th or higher in gun game part of one of the assignments done last night. played on 16/24 player servers and the experience was much better. less being shot in the back and being blocked in doorways by enemies. and my ping was back down to 15 or so which made the whole experience better

*nods head* That 64 player map was ridonkulous! I’ll never go on that sized player server again
it was so manic that i didnt get a chance to say hi to you last night. i saw the =XDC=Insane joined the server and then it was just running about like a looney

Participantplayed about 3 hours last night and i was having a very high ping so the experience wasnt great. will try again this evening and see if it improves.
playing on a 64 player map was manic, all the time. people have said that 16 or 32 player max is far better. i can see it being really fun for a short period of time when mixed with other maps and game types but i dont thik it something i would want to play all the time. its very COD like, which isnt a bad thing but i prefer the larger maps

Participantthere is a lot of rage on the forums, not exactly a surprise. im looking forward to playing it a bit tonight. looks frantic and a change of pace from the base bf maps. not sure on its longevity but with CQ maps mixed with regular maps i can see it being good fun.

Its great fun.
Btw wolf that guy must of been shit. He completed the game on NORMAL. The idea is that you run through the game 4 times. Normal, nightmare, hell and then inferno.
Unless your pretty pro you will need to be in a party for the last 2 difficulty’s at least.
Once you complete you start again on the next difficulty at the same lvl with the same gear as you ended the last one on. Every time you start a new game the landscape randomly spawns so no run through is the same. Harder monters better loot every run. I am 3/4 through nightmare atm and its challenging but still great fun.
Cant wait for the next difficulty so i can start twatting bosses with groups. Going to be awesome.the difficulty ramps up on nightmare if you are grouped with other players, im on nightmare atm and the difficulty while soloing is very easy but in a group things really start to get harder, the rare and elite mobs hurt…. lots and take a real beating before they spill their loot. also the number of mobs increase as well so its great fun with more people in the group.

Actually pretty funny. I’ve not got the game yet but I will buy it. This shit went on during the beta though and was annoying then. How can they be surprised that a lot of people are going to log onto the server when they force you to log onto the server to play.
And charge £45 for it….
Cheeky cunts
i completly agree, its a very poor showing by Blizzard. especially as this isnt exactly their first foray into online games with a login process. tbh all the anger at Blizzard i feel is justified as this sort of thing should never happen, there have been so many game launches where logging in with accounts that it should just never happen.
