How are you updating Doc? I can’t remember what I was doing the first couple of times I reinstalled xp, but I did have a similar problem once. Now there is no logical reason for why this might resolve your problem, but ever since I started using the windows update site and using the express button to “get high priority updates” I’ve not had a problem updating windows. You just run through the process several times until it decides you’ve had enough (takes a couple of hours from scratch).

Assuming my download works this time, I could send you it on dvd Doc, since it would take a huge chunk out of your monthly limit. If you were near Edinburgh you could call in and pick it up, but I take it you’re still out in the sticks if that’s the kind of net service you’ve gone for? What happens when you go over the limit btw? Do you get charged extra, or do you lose connectivity? Anyway just pm me your address and I’ll stick it in the post.

The 1.0 > 1.4 weighs in at 100 meg, then the 1.4 > 2.101 is 1.77 gb, and that fucked up for me when I didn’t have enough disk space, so I don’t know yet what the rest are like.
I’ll have a game of COD 4 with you if you’re up for it, although I’m pretty shit at it. Company of Heroe’s is imo the daddy of RTS games, and it’s on the PC btw.
Being a dozy bastard I logged onto a server this morning and thought people were having a muck about with all scouts on each team…and promptly joined in. Of course this was just because the scout pack has been released and I didn’t know about it. So I don’t really know much about it yet, except that that baseball bat hit is a lot easier to achieve than I thought it sounded, and it feels a little overpowered. The scout also now has an extremely annoying gun that knocks you about when you’re hit, but most interesting is a kind of invulnerability they seem to get that allows them past sentry guns. I’m very sketchy on details atm because I can’t be arsed reading up on them but the scout’s certainly got a boost from these.
I’m just using whichever one i can find with the most players, most maps, and lowest ping in that order. We used to have irc and ase to keep track of where we were all playing this, but i’d suggest these days that people hang out in ts and just ask each other where the game’s at. i’m certainly having another game of this over the weekend.
You should have access to the member forums now mate, I did think to do this yesterday but my mind was on the Liverpool game when I got home, and forgot 🙂
As for games, TF2 is still pretty good, and I still enjoy a good game of it from time to time, but you might be surprised to hear I’m spending most of my game time in eve these days. Thanks to crazy hippo and wizzywig, I was able to get into the fighting side of the game that we were dying to try back in the day, and I’ve not looked back since 🙂 Other games popular atm are Insurgency, which you might like as it’s similar to Rogue Spear, although not quite, and while I still haven’t quite managed to get into it, lots of people here have (it’s a mod on the source engine, so if you have.Half Life 2, this will work for you). There is also Left 4 Dead, which I’m enjoying a lot at the moment, and I think you would as well if your pc could cope with it.
I’ve come to a conclusion recently, which goes some way to explaining why previously sane PC gamers can play FPS on consoles (something that’s been bugging me for a while). FPS on consoles, is retro PC gaming made socially acceptable.
it’s sad you guys are wasting so much time with them, as we could have such a blast with some of the games on steam these days.
Alun, I can help get you setup if you catch me on MSN or Steam sometime (easiest on steam). I think there’s a good chance we’ll be doing this again in the near future.
